What can you do with a friend?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading:<\/strong> We will be reading <em>Friends All Around<\/em>,<em>\u00a0Making Friends (<\/em>poem<em>), The Fight (<\/em>poem<em>), The lion and the mouse, Stellaluna<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Comprehension<\/strong>: Identifying character, setting<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accuracy:<\/strong> Identify the first sound in a word and the last sound in a word<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fluency<\/strong>: Recognize upper\/lower case letters and sight words<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expanding Vocabulary:<\/strong> Reading from left to right, Reading from top to bottom, Read from the left page and move to the right page. Know return sweep when reading \/writing a sentence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Letter of the week:<\/strong>\u00a0Pp (Review: Aa, Mm- we will continue blending &#8220;a-m&#8221; to make the word &#8220;am&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grammar:<\/strong> Nouns- (singular and plural) We will also listen for &#8220;s&#8221; at the end of a word to describe more than one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sight word<\/strong>: &#8220;a&#8221;-pronounced &#8220;ahh&#8221;\u00a0(Review: I, can, we, the, like)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing:<\/strong> We will continue to practice letter formation. We will\u00a0create a picture web. This will be a stepping stone to help the brainstorming process. We will also be able to write sentences independently using the sight words learned thus far.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math:<\/strong>\u00a0We will continue to practice counting 0-20. We will continue to focus on numbers 11-20. We call these numbers tricky teens. Students will at times write number incorrectly within these numbers. We will also practice adding one to any given number.<\/p>\n<p>We will also review patterns with shapes and other items. We will continue to\u00a0discuss positional\/prepositional words.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science:<\/strong> Fall investigation continued&#8230; We started to create a fall book to wrap our ideas about fall. We will focus on pumpkins. We will make a prediction, conclusion and record our data in our science journals.<\/p>\n<p><em>Earlier this year, I requested for parents to send in a white t-shirt or lab coat and a pair of safety goggles or old sunglasses. If you have not send in one yet, please do so. Your child will be role playing scientist during our science investigations.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reminders:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Friday will be our Halloween Parade and Party. \u00a0Students may bring a costume to school and we will change into the costumes after lunch. \u00a0You also may take your child home at lunch (11:15) to eat and dress. \u00a0Please have your child back at school by\u00a0<strong>12:00 noon.\u00a0<\/strong>We have music at 12:00.<\/li>\n<li>The parade will be held at 1:30 at our school track- weather permitting, of course.<\/li>\n<li>The homeroom parent has requested for $2 for organizing the Halloween party on Friday.
