This is a skill that your students need to become independent in in order to help them live a more successfully independent life now and in the future. We encourage that you continue to work with this at home as well and encourage your child to do as many personal care items for themselves as possible. After they have finished changing, if time allows we will work on the following themes each day.

Monday – Recipe for cooking manipulation: identifying tools and ingredients needed to complete the recipe, putting steps into correct order, and practice with measuring ingredients correctly.

This is just one example of the several different activities we do to help the students with measurement.

Tuesday – Art project : to work on fine motor skills, following directions, spacial awareness and several other beneficial factors.

Wednesday – Mrs. Adadow (school social worker) lesson on building friends/peer relationships, dealing with our feelings appropriately, and communication

Thursday –.

*Community Based Instruction: Shopping in the morning on Thursdays. Mrs. Wheble’s and Ms. Bittar’s caseloads alternate shopping and staying behind every other week because there is not enough room on the bus for all of us to go. We go to stores up on the hill including Meijer, Target, Five Below, Barnes and Nobel, Michael’s, and more! During the two hours we have shopping we have students practice navigating around the store to locate specific items, finding/comparing prices, using a price check, asking for help from a worker when needed, and counting out money to pay for a transaction. We always purchase the ingredients needed for cooking that week as well. This is why the $2.00 donation is much needed every week.

Cooking Day!
