{"id":203,"date":"2022-10-09T16:49:47","date_gmt":"2022-10-09T20:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsverrier\/?p=203"},"modified":"2022-10-09T16:49:48","modified_gmt":"2022-10-09T20:49:48","slug":"weekly-news-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsverrier\/2022\/10\/09\/weekly-news-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly News!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hello Families!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope that everyone is having a wonderful fall weekend!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daily Check-In:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week was the first week of our Daily Check-Ins.&nbsp; It was a wonderful tool for school-home communication, but also allowed for student reflection each day.&nbsp; Please, send the Daily Check-In back to school each day.&nbsp; Also, each Friday I will send home the Daily Check-In, please send it back to school on Monday.&nbsp; Thank you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assessment:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I give quick quizzes each Friday to check that students are able to apply the skills that we are learning during the week.&nbsp; These quizzes, along with all assessments that I give, drive my instruction.&nbsp; If I see that a few students are not understanding a specific concept, I will reteach in a small group.&nbsp; If I see that the whole class is struggling with a concept, I will reteach the concept to the whole class.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the case for this past week.&nbsp; I gave a quick check (quiz) in both Math (measuring with centimeters) and Reading (Main Idea).&nbsp; Both these quick checks showed me that I need to go back, reteach, and allow for students to practice longer.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will always guide my instruction by what is best for my students.&nbsp; This sometimes means slowing down, and practicing more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What we are learning this week:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In Math, we will review using centimeter cubes for measuring real objects, along with using a ruler.&nbsp; We will also start learning about the difference between a meter and centimeter.<\/li><li>In Reading, we will be reviewing how to identify the main topic\/ idea of a passage and within different paragraphs.&nbsp; We will also discuss and review how key details prove and support the main idea of a passage\/ paragraph.<\/li><li>In Writing, we begin writing our informational piece on different habitats.&nbsp; The final draft will be due the last week of October.&nbsp; This will be a very guided process.&nbsp; I will be sending home a writing rubric with your child by the end of the week so that you are aware of how I will be grading their writing.<\/li><li>In Social Studies, we will be learning about communities and why families live in communities.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parent- Teacher Sign-Up:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you to those who have signed up for their conference.&nbsp; Please click the link, choose a time, and complete the registration.&nbsp; If you do not get the time that you want, I am sorry.&nbsp; I cannot be flexible with conference times, this is to ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to discuss their child\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.signupgenius.com\/go\/10C0F49ADAE2FA2FAC70-conference\">Conference Sign-Up<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important Dates this week:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Tuesday, October 11th<\/strong> is our field.&nbsp; The field trip schedule and assigned groups were sent home last week.&nbsp; Please make sure to bring this paper to the field trip on Tuesday. They have your schedule, where you need to be at what time, and the reminders for dress\/lunch.<\/li><li><strong>Wednesday, October 12th<\/strong> is a Late Start.&nbsp; Breakfast will begin at 9:35 am.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>Friday, October 14th<\/strong> is our first POPCORN DAY! Please send in $1 in a labeled envelope or zip lock bag!
