Agenda for the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reading\/Writing:\u00a0<\/strong>We reviewed adjectives, nouns, and verbs this week. This week we focused more on nouns and verbs. We are working on stretching our sentences to include more details (who is the story\/sentence about, where are they, what do they look like, what are they doing, etc).<\/p>\n

Spelling words for next week will be in the homework packet coming home on Monday<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Please continue to have your child practice writing at home. Here is what I am looking for in class:<\/p>\n

Uppercase to start the sentence<\/p>\n

End punctuation (. ! ?)<\/p>\n

Finger spaces between words<\/p>\n

Does the sentence make sense? Are the words in the correct order?<\/p>\n

Does the picture match the words?<\/p>\n

Did you stretch your sentence? (Is there a noun, adjective, and verb?)<\/p>\n

Math:\u00a0<\/strong>We took our +3 math quizzes. Today, I sent home the +4 flashcards. We will take the +4 quiz on Friday, January 27th<\/span>.<\/p>\n

We continue to learn about addition. We have been practicing using a number line to add numbers together. We also have been using a strategy called \u201ccounting on\u201d where the child imagines the larger number in their head and displays the smaller number on their hands by putting up that number of fingers. Then they touch their head and say the larger number, then count up from there on their fingers to find the total.<\/p>\n

Please continue to practice counting by 1\u2019s, 5\u2019s, and 10\u2019s to 100 with your child at home. Also practice counting to 30 by 2\u2019s (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20\u2026..).\u00a0 Other activities you can practice at home are using tally marks to count objects, identifying 2D\/3D shapes around the house of community, and really making sure your child has good one-to-one correspondence when counting (this means that they touch each object as they are counting and count all objects correctly).<\/p>\n

Social Studies:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0We continued talking about history and what timelines are and how they are used. We shared our timeline projects with each other and the children enjoyed talking about their past.<\/p>\n

Housekeeping Items:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

If you would like to leave boots and snow pants at school in your child\u2019s locker, please feel free to do so! Just send me a note so that I know that they need to stay here through the week.<\/p>\n

Please make sure reading books are placed back\u00a0in<\/strong>\u00a0the green book pouches each night and returned to school every morning.<\/p>\n

Please make sure to record the reading that you do with your child each night on the reading log in the homework.<\/p>\n

Please make sure to\u00a0empty\u00a0<\/strong>the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate homework or important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
