{"id":52,"date":"2014-10-11T22:36:28","date_gmt":"2014-10-12T02:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsrachwal\/?page_id=52"},"modified":"2020-01-12T14:54:41","modified_gmt":"2020-01-12T19:54:41","slug":"language-arts","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsrachwal\/language-arts\/","title":{"rendered":"Language Arts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>**Because literacy is extremely important to success in school, students should be reading AT LEAST 30 minutes each night and logging their reading minutes onto Biblionasium.com.\u00a0 (I have invited parents to connect to this site by email)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>JANUARY, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>NARRATIVE WRITING:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Because of NWEA testing, this is a great time to begin our graphic novels.\u00a0 This is always a student favorite.\u00a0 We have begun with our blueprints, coming up with a draft of the story.\u00a0 They are learning about the visual elements of graphic novels.\u00a0 Students will be selecting pages to write and illustrate their novels.\u00a0 Some fun writing during the NWEA testing weeks!<\/p>\n<p><strong>READING:\u00a0<\/strong> I have introduced the historical fiction assignment on Google Classroom the first day after our holiday break.\u00a0 As students are reading their novels, they may complete various parts of the assignment.\u00a0 We are also working on finding the theme in literature.\u00a0 There is a section of the assignment that focuses on this.\u00a0 This assignment is due by the end of the week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DECEMBER, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>INFORMATIONAL WRITING:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>We are writing informational papers on the Columbian Exchange.\u00a0 Students have been learning about the Columbian Exchange in Social Studies.\u00a0 They organized their information into a paper with headings, and introduction and conclusion to demonstrate what they have learned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READING<\/strong>: Students have been assigned a historical fiction book at their reading level.\u00a0 They should be paying attention to elements of the book that show the book is historical fiction.\u00a0 After the break, they will be working on an assignment related to their novel on Google Classroom.\u00a0 Read! Read!
