Tomorrow welcomes May 1st! I can&#8217;t believe how quickly this year is flying by. We will continue NWEA testing this week. I plan to have everyone tested by the end of the week so we can have a week to breath before we begin M-Step testing the week of the 15th.<\/p>\n<p>Reminders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We will have early lunch (11:25) on Tuesday only this week.<\/li>\n<li>NWEA testing will take place each morning this week.<\/li>\n<li>4th grade Market Day is Friday. Students will visit the 4th grade classrooms and purchase products they created. Students DO NOT need money for this event, as they will receive &#8220;play&#8221; money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Reading &#8211; We will continue to learn about poetry and it&#8217;s inclusion of figurative language by creating figurative language flip books as a resource to refer to. We will also work through our M-Step review folder when time allows.<\/p>\n<p>Writing- Our focus will continue to be on opinion brief writes. Last week we did not get as many lessons as I wanted with our testing and busy schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Math- We wrapped up our fraction unit on Friday with our unit test and I am very happy at how well the class did. We will begin our next unit which is reviewing multiplication and division concepts and practicing multi-step story problems using the CER method to help explain our reasoning.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies- We will be taking a look at how Michigan&#8217;s resources impacted the economy and growth of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Science- We will be comparing how slow and fast changes can affect the land.<\/p>\n<p>Academic Vocabulary-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Idiom-A<span class=\"st\" data-hveid=\"99\" data-ved=\"0ahUKEwjU9ZrJr83TAhVYHGMKHfjABEYQ4EUIYzAN\">n expression that cannot be understood from the meanings of its separate words but must be learned as a whole. Ex. Break a leg, spill the beans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Metaphor- Comparing two things NOT using the words &#8216;like&#8217; or &#8216;as&#8217;.<\/li>\n<li>Simile- Comparing two things that are not alike USING the words &#8216;like&#8217; or &#8216;as&#8217;.<\/li>\n<li>Entrepreneur-A<span class=\"st\"> person who starts a business and is willing to risk loss in order to make money. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good evening Haigh families.
