I hope your weekend is going well. I heard some afternoon snow is on it&#8217;s way today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reminders for the week:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Spirit Week<ul><li>Monday- pajama day<\/li><li>Tuesday -mismatch day<\/li><li>Wednesday- sports team or crazy hair day<\/li><li>Thursday- Haigh spirit day<\/li><li>Friday- Wear red for Valentines day<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Valentine gram sale during lunch (Mon.-Wed.)<\/li><li>Bring in a paper Kroger bag (We will decorate at school to hold Valentines in)<\/li><li>Small Valentine celebration on Friday at 2:30<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In reading this week we will work on recognizing the theme in a story and supporting it with evidence from the text. We will also work on responding to questions from a text using the CER (Claim, evidence, reasoning) format. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In math this week we will continue to work on finding the area of composite shapes. This proved to be a little tricky for them this past week. Take a look in their folder at the sheet we did on Friday to help support them. I plan to test on area by the end of this week. We will begin our unit on fractions after mid winter break. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In science we will continue to explore how habitats have changed over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In social studies we will focus on how mining was a major economic activity that helped grow Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Academic Vocabulary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Theme- the message in a story.<\/li><li>Inference- to use your prior knowledge and evidence from the text to figure something out.<\/li><li>Parallel lines-  two lines\u00a0that are always the same distance apart and never touch.<\/li><li>Quadrilateral- a 2-D shape that has 4 sides. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking forward to a great week!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good afternoon Haigh families.
