We have officially learned all the letters of the alphabet! \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spelling words to study for next week: <\/span><b>List 12: that, did, but, had, bad, dad, mad, sad, pad,<\/b><b> \u00a0<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please practice the extra cold -ad words, as there will be a cold word for number 12 on the test! \u00a0<\/span><b><i>Extra words: glad. \u00a0<\/i><\/b><b><i>Our 12th test will be Friday, March 23rd.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Word Family -ad | Phonics Song for Kids | Jack Hartmann\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/A20pc-uG1Z4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Writing: \u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In writing, we finished our star student book and are doing some more narrative \u00a0writing in March! The 4 main components of narrative writing are: It\u2019s written by the character,\u00a0 it\u2019s written about real life events, it\u2019s written in sequential order: first, next and last and lastly, it\u2019s written with feelings.\u00a0 <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Math<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u00a0We will continue to talk about subtraction and addition \u00a0in March, but I will also introduce greater than\/less than as well. We have a little bit of everything during our math workshop: greater than\/less than, count the room, smash it! subtraction, addition, missing numbers, etc.\u00a0 Here are some pictures from our math \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Math Quizzes:<\/b> We have a math quiz on Friday, March 23rd on math facts -0! \u00a0Please make the flashcards at home for your child to help them prepare for their math quiz. For extra practice at home (instead of the flash cards), you could also use counters (or food) for a visual representation of the math equation for your child. You can also practice with your child by having them put the big number in their head and the small number on their hands and then count up. Try to make it fun! Thank you for supporting your child with their subtraction skills!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/90\/de\/66\/90de665b370d97b0df2fa99d5c23d52e.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for subtraction minus zero\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Science<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: All 23 students were assessed on Arctic Animals\/Habitat. \u00a022 students scored an 80% or higher:) For the month of April we will move into Ocean Animals! \u00a0We are excited for this unit!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Social Studies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: We are having fun learning about maps and drawing maps!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>March is Reading Month<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u00a0Your child came home with a \u201cPaws for Reading\u201d packet. \u00a0In this packet is a special calendar with all kinds of exciting reading activities you can do at home with your child! \u00a0Also, you will see a 2018 March Reading Log to keep track of your child\u2019s reading minutes at home. \u00a0Since I only have 1 day for conferences, I will reach out to the families I need to speak with during the conference day. \u00a0If you do not get an invite, have no fear, with the report card I will send home a comprehension handout to better help your child become a retelling pro and also a current standing on what sight words your child can recognize, so you are in the \u201cKnow!\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of 21 students today, who took the spelling test, only 9\u00a0 received a 100% and 8 students only missed 1 to 2 \u00a0words!!\u00a0 Way to go to my students and parents who worked so hard to ensure their child was successful for the Friday spelling test! \u00a0I will send the booklet home on Monday for you all to see how your child did:). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, to look over your child\u2019s spelling test booklet, sign on the line and return the booklet in the green folder the very next day (TUESDAY)! \u00a0It is imperative I receive them all back the next day!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0Thank you!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of 21 students today, we had 20 students receive a 100% on their math quiz +10!\u00a0 How AWESOME is that?!?!\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><b>If your child is not performing at 70% or above, I suggest making flash cards for your child to practice at home with<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! There are a lot of great books for your child at a very reasonable price and FREE shipping. \u00a0Thank you to Jad\u2019s family for buying something from our book club:)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Housekeeping items:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Homework is a requirement we have in Kindergarten.\u00a0 I have a handful of students who are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> turning in their homework packet, including the reading log completed on Fridays.\u00a0 I cannot stress the importance of homework and the positive effect it has on your child&#8217;s academic performance.\u00a0 Homework touches on previous skills, new skills and skills we are working towards; especially spelling words and math computation.\u00a0 Homework also gives your child more independent practice on skills they should master by the end of Kindergarten.\u00a0 If you are having a hard time completing the homework with your child, please email me and we can set up a time to talk about how to fit homework into your daily schedule.\u00a0 Thank you!<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your child&#8217;s green folder is falling apart, please use some packaging tape to put the folder back together, or please purchase another green folder for you child. \u00a0Some folders are torn in half and is difficult to place work and or important notes in your child&#8217;s folder. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Gym Days (Thursday and Friday), please make sure to send your child to school in Gym Shoes! \u00a0Mr. Peecher will have the kids sit on the stage if they are not wearing appropriate gym attire.
