These are the letters we have learned thus far: Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg \u00a0and Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy and Zz. \u00a0Make sure to focus on these letters at home to observe if your child has mastered each letter that was taught in class. \u00a0Also, please make sure to go over LIST ONE for the sight word list; make it \u00a0a part of their homework routine:) <\/span><b>\u00a0Our first sight word test will be THIS Friday November, 3rd<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! \u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201c<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sight words are an important building block for early readers because they make up much of what a child will encounter when reading any book, worksheet or environmental print. \u00a0Children are encouraged and expected to recognize these words by sight; that is, to memorize them without sounding out or using other strategies.<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d -heidisongs.com <\/span><\/i><b><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/b><b><i>Remember parents, this test isn\u2019t about spelling the sight word, it\u2019s about recognizing the sight word and being able to read it with fluency and accuracy!<\/i><\/b><b> \u00a0<\/b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>In December, we will start spelling tests, but for now just practice recognizing the words:)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><b>Math:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We practiced recognizing, writing and representing numbers 15 and 16 and we learned what 3D shapes are (cube, sphere, cylinder, rectangular prism and cone)! \u00a0We will have a geometry test this Monday to see if the students know their 3D shapes! \u00a0Looking ahead, I will be teaching the students how to count by 5\u2019s and 10\u2019s to 100 in addition to counting by 1\u2019s:) \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Science<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: We have ended our unit on Push and Pull with a science assessment and will move into Weather and Seasons starting in November. \u00a0We are cruising right along, that\u2019s for sure!\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsfillmore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2429\/2017\/10\/IMG-6984.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-248\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsfillmore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2429\/2017\/10\/IMG-6984-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsfillmore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2429\/2017\/10\/IMG-6984-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsfillmore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2429\/2017\/10\/IMG-6984-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrsfillmore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2429\/2017\/10\/IMG-6984-173x230.jpg 173w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Social Studies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As always, we are still working on how to get along with others by using the words like, \u201cplease,\u201d \u201cthank you.\u201d \u00a0November, we will begin to learn about needs and wants!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Other:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We completed our first CER (claim, evidence and reasoning) this week on spheres! \u00a0We sure have been having fun learning in Kindergarten!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Read to Self, we used flashlights to find sight words in our text! \u00a0The costume parade will start promptly at 2:30p.m. \u00a0The students will walk around the school in their costumes; this is a great time to bring a camera and snap some pictures of the cute costumes! \u00a0Mr. Short has outlined the parade details on his blog post. \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/haigh.dearbornschools.org\/2017\/10\/17\/halloween-parade-october-31st-230pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is where you can get the information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for costumes, I ask that you do not put your child in a costume they don\u2019t know how to get out of. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><b>Please practice, practice, practice \u00a0with your child how to properly take off and put on their costume to ensure no accidents will happen in the classroom.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0Of course, we will do the best we can to help the students, but sometimes we can\u2019t get to the student fast enough, etc. \u00a0We also ask that you do not dress your child in scary costumes, bring any weapons and or masks. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, if you would like to bring in one bag of wrapped candy or non edible treats for your child to pass out to his\/her friends, that is welcomed as well! \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have 23 friends in the classroom! <\/span><b><i>\u00a0I just ask all candy is gelatin free (NO pork products)<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! \u00a0With our celebration fund money we were able to purchase fun games for the kids to play during our Halloween centers and also yummy treats for the kids to enjoy (yum, yum)! \u00a0Again, thank you for your donation to our fund! \u00a0I will make sure to post pictures on our blog of the day!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Housekeeping items\u00a0 (PLEASE READ&#8230;NEW and IMPORTANT Information):<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For your convenience I \u00a0will have the Parent Teacher Conference reminder times at arrival and dismissal starting on Wednesday. \u00a0I will also send home two additional reminders in your child\u2019s folder about your conference day\/time. \u00a0You will only attend ONE conference, not all 3 that is offered.
