Can Food Drive

Hype Athletics Canned Food Drive is starting Monday!

All brands are accepted! Let’s help feed a family! Bring in your canned goods starting Monday, November 4th. The food drive will continue though November 15th. Our goal this year is to raise 4,000 cans. Together we can meet our goal!

Kindergarten Weekly News

Hello Kindergarten Families!

Happy 10th week of kindergarten! Wednesday is Halloween! 

Wednesday, October 30th – BOO BASH after school from 5:00-6:30. 

Thursday, October 31st:  Please have your child wear black and orange.

We are also asking for each child to send in 22 individually wrapped treats to pass out if you choose. 

Friday, November 1st Half Day students will be dismissed at 11:45.

Daylight savings ends on Sunday. Remember to set your clocks back one hour.

Upcoming: There will be no school on Tuesday, November 5th

Parent Teacher Conferences will be Tuesday the 7th, Tuesday the 12th and Thursday the 14th by appointment only

The weather is getting colder! Please be sure to send your child with a coat, hat, and gloves everyday. 

Please remember to put the items your child brings home in their reading and math bags back into the bags when you are done using them. The children are bringing home books and sight word cards to practice. Please help your child be responsible with these learning tools. These bags contain homework items for your child. Please work with these items for 20 minutes each day. ☺

Homework: Practice letters, books, and sight words in your child’s reading bags. Write first name and last name, count to 100, recognize and write numbers 1-20.

Letters:  Please help your child to recognize and write the following letters this week: Zz, Bb, and Ff.  

In addition, please help your child practice writing his/her first and last name. Please be sure there are no backwards letters and that only the first letter is uppercase. The rest of the name should be lowercase. Recognizing and writing names are very important and will be practiced every day!   Ex.          Amy Baskin    not…. AMY BASKIN  or amy baskin.  

Reading: This week we will work on retelling a story with a focus on characters and setting.  When reading at home encourage your child to retell the story identifying the characters and setting. The children are working on blending sounds to read a word. (ex. h-o-t blended reads hot) We are still practicing our independent Daily 5 time with Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, Listen to Reading, and Read to Someone. Please encourage your child to read their sight words and books from their reading bags each day! Please practice the following sight words: (These are words your child needs to recognize and read by sight.)

Math: We will continue to practice recognizing and writing numbers 0-20 as well as representing the quantity the number represents. We will also continue to practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s. We will be completing math workshop this week to reinforce concepts taught thus far. 

Science: We will continue learning about the 5 senses. We will conduct our next science investigation this week using the 5 senses as well as the scientific process of investigating a question with a hypothesis and using data to determine the results. We will focus on investigations with pumpkins! 

Social Studies:  We will be assessing students on what is fair and responsible. 

Writing: This week the children will continue to label a picture and focus on describing an activity using a complete sentence with details.

Boo Bash!

Date: Wednesday, October 30, 2019 Time: 5:00 to 6:30pm Place: Miller Elementary Admission Fee: $1 per person Join us in your favorite costume for a frightfully good time! All Miller students are welcome with a parent or an adult over 18. 

PTA will be selling Pizza – drinks – donuts – snacks & more! 50/50 Raffle tickets will be sold- $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5.00!

Kindergarten Weekly News

Hello Kindergarten Families!

Happy 9th week of kindergarten! We are looking forward to another beautiful week in Miller’s Kindergarten! 

Please be sure to check your child’s backpack everyday as well as empty out any old papers. We are also encouraging ALL families to sign up for the classroom blogs. If you have not, all that is needed is your email. It is greatly appreciated that you add a little comment to the blog postings after reading them. We are also asking that you have your child visit CLEVER and go on to Zearn. Thank you!!! 

The weather is changing please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. This includes a winter coat, gloves, and hat.

We will work on building our comprehension skills by identifying the main topic of an informational book. The children will also begin working on blending sounds to read a word. Please encourage your child to read their sight words and books from their reading bags each day! This week we will continue to discuss a classroom issue and brainstorm ways we can work together to solve the problem together. We will also have our first test in social studies on the concepts we have learned about getting along with others.

Writing: We will continue to focus on personal narratives.We will continue launching the writers workshop model. Students will be drawing pictures of a small moments in their life. They will label the picture by stretching sounds and share their stories with partners.
