{"id":920,"date":"2019-05-20T15:41:12","date_gmt":"2019-05-20T19:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrmay\/?p=920"},"modified":"2019-05-20T15:41:12","modified_gmt":"2019-05-20T19:41:12","slug":"summer-learning-math-and-literacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mrmay\/2019\/05\/20\/summer-learning-math-and-literacy\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Learning: Math and Literacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dear Parent\/Guardian,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Johns Hopkins University, the effects of summer learning loss can result in nearly a three-month loss in grade-level equivalency in math and a two-month loss in grade-level equivalency in reading.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0In order to close the summer learning loss gap in reading and math, middle school students will be \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expected to complete<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Summer Learning before they return in the fall. \u00a0Teachers will grade the <\/span><b>completed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">summer work when school opens in August. \u00a0Below are the expectations for math and literacy. \u00a0Thank you so much for supporting your child\u2019s development through summer learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Math:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete 60 minutes of Khan Academy practice a week (<\/span><b>Practice only, videos will not count<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), based on their NWEA level. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students need to access Khan through <\/span><\/i><b><i>Clever<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the Dearborn Schools Student page.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0DO NOT LOG IN FROM THE STUDENT&#8217;S PERSONAL \u00a0ACCOUNT<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below is the grade breakdown by minutes for Math.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">480+ minutes \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">384 &#8211;
