Please also refer to this list when sending in birthday treats. We want every child to be part of the celebration, so store bought items with an ingredients list makes that easy. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Allergy Policy Quick Reference for Parents<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several students in our school community have severe, potentially life-threatening allergies. DuVall&nbsp; has policies intended to protect those students, while allowing as much personal freedom as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peanuts\/Tree Nuts are prohibited,\u200b for consumption or use, within the building except in specified areas. This applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Areas where peanuts and tree nuts are NOT allowed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Shared areas including: Hallways, art room, music room, media center, gym, computer lab and other common rooms<\/li><li>Classrooms designated Peanut and Tree Nut Free<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Areas where nuts ARE allowed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Cafeteria<\/li><li>Certain classrooms which are not designated Peanut and Tree Nut Free<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In shared areas (all are \u200bNUT-PROHIBITED\u200b) one cannot have:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25cf Peanuts or tree nuts (e.g., almonds, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, chestnuts, pecans)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25cf Items that contain peanuts or tree nuts (e.g., nuts in cookies, granola bars, trail mix, snack mixes, pesto)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25cf Items that may contain nuts, are produced on shared equipment with nuts or are produced in a facility that processes nuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your child is in a nut-prohibited classroom, please carefully follow the following rules:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>No items containing peanuts or tree nuts are permitted in the classroom, except those within a closed lunch container.<ul><li>Lunch containers may not be opened in the classroom at any time.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Individual snacks to be eaten during the school day should be in a separate bag or pocket of a backpack.&nbsp;<\/li><li>If you bring in classroom snacks, only snacks and treats that are peanut\/tree nut free may be served. Items produced on shared equipment with or in the same facility as peanuts or tree nuts are also PROHIBITED.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Classroom activities and projects \u2013 peanuts and tree nuts may not used in the classroom for learning activities, e.g. acorns brought in for show and tell, M &amp; Ms brought in for 100s day.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Students in the nut-prohibited classroom and those visiting that classroom may be asked to wash hands at designated times during the day to limit risk of exposure to allergens.<\/li><li>If a product contains a common allergen (e.g., peanuts\/tree nuts), it must be listed EITHER within the ingredients list\u200b OR just below it\u200b.&nbsp;<\/li><li>TIP:\u200b It can be easier to look below the ingredients list first. If the allergen information is not there, then read through the ingredients.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Read labels each time you buy. <strong><em>Companies change ingredients without warning!<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li><li>If you are unsure, err on the side of caution.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Even if the snack doesn\u2019t seem like it would have nuts in it, check the label carefully.&nbsp; Kellogg recently began adding peanut flour to some of its cheese cracker products!<\/li><li>The chart below is NOT exhaustive.
