{"id":160,"date":"2017-10-27T08:28:21","date_gmt":"2017-10-27T12:28:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/minierj\/?p=160"},"modified":"2017-10-27T08:28:21","modified_gmt":"2017-10-27T12:28:21","slug":"checking-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/minierj\/2017\/10\/27\/checking-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Checking In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m sorry I haven&#8217;t visited my blog in a few&#8230;but no worries&#8230;I&#8217;m back.<\/p>\n<p>Just a quick update on what is going on in our classroom.\u00a0 I am your eyes and ears during the day.\u00a0 LOL.<\/p>\n<p>Spelling:\u00a0 Words will continue coming home on Monday.\u00a0 They should be written in the planner.\u00a0 I hear &#8220;My mom threw out my spelling words.&#8221; quite often.\u00a0 Please be aware I always tell the kids that their parents have already been in 3rd grade and what they bring home is their responsibility.\u00a0 Tisk, Tisk, trying to blame you guys.\u00a0 As if!<\/p>\n<p>Daily 5:\u00a0 We have be using an easy book to learn the strategies that we will be applying to our new books next week.\u00a0 The kids will be grouped by strategies that they are working on like comprehension, vocabulary and accuracy\/fluency.\u00a0 During Daily 5 it is imperative that the children know they are to remain on task, work silently and stay in one spot.\u00a0 I am with groups and cannot interrupt to manage behavior.\u00a0 When I stop to do that, it ruins the flow of learning.\u00a0 This is when a lot of colors are changed.<\/p>\n<p>Writing:\u00a0 We are finishing our Narrative Blueprint and will be writing our final copy before the card marking ends.<\/p>\n<p>Math:\u00a0 Unit 3 focuses on Geometric Figures &#8211; perimeter and area and measurement.\u00a0 We will continue doing 180 Days of Math Everyday.<\/p>\n<p>Science:\u00a0 Next week we will begin Magnets.\u00a0 Students just took the assessment for Forces and Motion.\u00a0 Most did very well on it!<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies:\u00a0 We wil begin talking about Natural Resources and the effect humans have on them &#8211; whether positive or negative. Today we will make our Lighthouses!\u00a0 Thank you parents for donations!<\/p>\n<p>Face it, your child is stuck with me all day.\u00a0 In middle school they have the opportunity to change classes and teachers.\u00a0 Therefore, I try to make learning fun.\u00a0 I give them many options to move from their seats. We have tents to read in (thanks to a parent), nice fluffy beanbags to read on (thanks to several parents), and a carpet to stretch out on if necessary.\u00a0 I try to provide many hands on activities too.\u00a0 However, recently I have done some of them whole class.\u00a0 We are working on how to cooperate with others.\u00a0 When we are supposed to be learning science\/social studies\/etc. &#8211; other things such as foolishness, chatting, tattling, arguing&#8230;are taking place.\u00a0 Successful group work as you all know takes cooperation.\u00a0 That is a skill we are working on.\u00a0 I am giving them some group work today.\u00a0 Fingers crossed.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, a note about homework.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t normally just give homework.\u00a0 Homework is anything not finished in class. Everything we have done in class is written in the planner.\u00a0 When the timer goes off, the kids are reminded to put unfinished work in their mailboxes.\u00a0 I have found work shoved in desks, students telling parents they don&#8217;t have homework or, as I mentioned above, they are blaming it on you.\u00a0 LOL\u00a0 They are now in 3rd grade.\u00a0 Part of 3rd grade is preparing for 4th.\u00a0 They are learning to become more independent and mature.\u00a0 Some need more help than others.\u00a0 I am trying to help as much as I can but please remember I am not God.\u00a0 I really do wish I could do everything, help everyone, be the perfect teacher, but I am not.\u00a0 Please be patient and know I am doing my best.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, thank you, thank you to such wonderful parents.\u00a0 I have never met such generous, supportive people.\u00a0 I appreciate you.<\/p>\n<p>Didn&#8217;t I say my blogs wouldn&#8217;t be this long?\u00a0 LOL<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m sorry I haven&#8217;t visited my blog in a few&#8230;but no worries&#8230;I&#8217;m back.
