{"id":158,"date":"2017-10-10T10:28:09","date_gmt":"2017-10-10T14:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/minierj\/?p=158"},"modified":"2017-10-10T10:28:09","modified_gmt":"2017-10-10T14:28:09","slug":"settling-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/minierj\/2017\/10\/10\/settling-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Settling In!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have been practicing our morning routine now for 5 weeks.\u00a0 Please remind your child when they enter the room to take out their planner and homework folder.\u00a0 Homework should be turned in.\u00a0 Jackets\/lunches\/backpacks go into the closet.\u00a0 Snacks should be on their desk.\u00a0 Lunch count must be taken.\u00a0 Last, they are to begin their Daily Writing right away.\u00a0 There is a lot of chatting going on and before they know it, the timer goes off and we are beginning spelling.\u00a0 Their Daily Writing should be finished in the time I give them.\u00a0 Many are not even close.<\/p>\n<p>Our class is reading &#8220;Uncle Elephant&#8221; together as our first chapter book.\u00a0 The book I chose is easy to comprehend (that was my purpose).\u00a0 I want to practice the strategies in their activity books so that when we begin reading in groups they will already know what to do.<\/p>\n<p>In math, we are working on Unit 2 &#8211; adding and subtracting with and without regrouping.\u00a0 The third grade teachers are noticing quite a few kids do not know how to regroup in subtraction (or trade).\u00a0 Please help them practice at home.<\/p>\n<p>Our Halloween Party will take place on Halloween, Tuesday, October 31st beginning at 11:00.\u00a0 We will eat a pizza lunch together as a class.\u00a0 Healthy snacks will also be on hand.\u00a0 A note will be coming home asking for $2 to help our room mom&#8217;s with the cost.<\/p>\n<p>Listening and following directions seem to be our biggest challenge right now.\u00a0 You would be amazed at the dynamic explanation I give before we do something.\u00a0 I might say something like&#8230;&#8221;don&#8217;t forget to color it red&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 and the next thing I know I hear someone say&#8230;&#8221;do we color it red?&#8221;\u00a0 or they color it yellow.\u00a0 LOL\u00a0 Third graders are learning to become more mature and independent.<\/p>\n<p>I love October.\u00a0 The sights, sounds, smells, tastes&#8230;enjoy time with your kids.\u00a0 I am very busy with mine.\u00a0 Mitchell, my youngest (12) just finished baseball, is running cross country and playing in a basketball league.\u00a0 He plays the piano and the saxophone.\u00a0 As a 7th grader, he was placed in an 8th\/9th grade math class.\u00a0 Mason, my oldest (will be 16 next month), is practicing driving &#8211; no worries, we don&#8217;t live in Dearborn&#8230;you&#8217;re safe.\u00a0 He is a busy high schooler enjoying his friends.\u00a0 He has a lot of homework every night because of the Honors Biology and History courses he is taking.\u00a0 Currently he is winding up his soccer season.\u00a0 Mason plays the violin beautifully.\u00a0 He has been playing since second grade.\u00a0 It is a pleasure to hear music in the home. Of all the accomplishments Mason has achieved, being a part of the Ping Pong Club at Salem High School is his favorite.\u00a0 It is a blessing to have 2 dedicated boys.
