{"id":155,"date":"2017-10-02T07:40:10","date_gmt":"2017-10-02T11:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/minierj\/?p=155"},"modified":"2017-10-02T07:40:10","modified_gmt":"2017-10-02T11:40:10","slug":"can-you-believe-it-is-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/minierj\/2017\/10\/02\/can-you-believe-it-is-october\/","title":{"rendered":"Can You Believe It Is October?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>September was a month to get to know one another, learn the rules, routines and procedures and get all of our testing out of the way.\u00a0 Now that October is here, we are ready to move!\u00a0 I am now expecting the kids to know what to do in the morning.\u00a0 We have had plenty of time to practice.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the color changes we have experienced have been from talking, lack of focus, not following directions or just doing what they want to do &#8211; not what they are asked to do.\u00a0 Please talk to your child about expectations.\u00a0 We are wasting instructional time because students are just doing their own thing and the class has to wait on them. It is a new month&#8230;a chance to being fresh.<\/p>\n<p>As far as curriculum goes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Spelling &#8211; continue to see the lists come home on Monday.\u00a0 The words should be written in their planners for homework (many are not doing this simple task).\u00a0 That way they have a list at home, a list in their planner, and a list at school&#8230;no excused for not knowing their words.<\/p>\n<p>Language Arts &#8211; We have been practicing Daily 4.\u00a0 I will be introducing\/reviewing the 5th this week.\u00a0 Soon we will be starting literacy groups.\u00a0 Slowly we will be moving into narrative writing.\u00a0 Last year, I started this much sooner.\u00a0 I feel I need to slow down a bit this year.<\/p>\n<p>Math &#8211; Unit 1 Math test will be Tuesday covering elapsed time and graphing\/data.\u00a0 They will be given a practice test to study.\u00a0 The next unit primarily reviews addition and subtraction.\u00a0 PLEASE review regrouping with your child.\u00a0 Many children do not know how to do it.\u00a0 They should enter 3rd grade know that strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Science &#8211; This week we will study Forces and Motion.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies &#8211; We continue to look at the natural characteristics of Michigan.\u00a0 Thank you for all of the Playdoh.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you so much for classroom donations.\u00a0 I had 2 bags of beanbag filler brought in.\u00a0 2 more would be great.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t had a chance to fill them yet -it is a messy job.\u00a0 LOL.\u00a0 Playdoh was also donated.
