{"id":138,"date":"2017-09-12T10:49:18","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T14:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/minierj\/?p=138"},"modified":"2017-09-12T10:49:18","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T14:49:18","slug":"welcome-to-third-grade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/minierj\/2017\/09\/12\/welcome-to-third-grade\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to Third Grade!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oh my goodness&#8230;can you believe your child is in 3rd grade already? \u00a0Didn&#8217;t they just start kindergarten?<\/p>\n<p>So, this is it! \u00a0I am your child&#8217;s teacher for the next 170+ days. \u00a0I want you to know that besides my own children, your child is the most important part of my day. \u00a0I assure you (even though I am nowhere near perfect) I will do my very best. \u00a0This is my 23rd year teaching in Dearborn. \u00a01 year at Henry Ford, 16 years at Maples and the rest is history! \u00a0I have taught every grade 1st-5th. \u00a0I also work part-time at a nature center because I have a Masters Degree in Environmental Education. \u00a0Nature is my passion. \u00a0I have 2 sons. \u00a0Mason is 15 (soon to be 16) at Salem High School and Mitchell is 12 at West Middle School in Plymouth. \u00a0As you can imagine, I am busy, busy, busy&#8230;soccer, violin, ping pong club, cross country, baseball, piano and saxophone&#8230;never a moment&#8217;s rest. LOL!<\/p>\n<p>A few things about the school year you may want to know.<\/p>\n<p>I have provided most of the supplies. \u00a0A pencil box with pencils, colored pencils and crayons would be great. \u00a0Replenish pencils from time to time please. \u00a0Believe it or not our little pencil ghost comes daily and somehow takes our pencils. \u00a0Our classroom is always in need of tissues. \u00a0Outdoor play equipment would be wonderful as well.<\/p>\n<p>I would like to get a pet bird for our classroom. \u00a0If anyone is willing to donate a few dollars for the cause, it would be appreciated. \u00a0I need to buy a cage, food and a Zebra Finch. \u00a0They have a very peaceful song.<\/p>\n<p>Healthy snacks and water bottles are allowed. \u00a0Healthy means &#8211; crackers, granola, cheese, vegetables, fruit, cereal&#8230;no nuts please!<\/p>\n<p>Our specials schedule is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Monday: \u00a0Art and Music, Tuesday: \u00a0Media, Wednesday: \u00a0Music, Thursday: Gym and Friday: \u00a0Gym, Library Book Check Out and Book Buddies<\/p>\n<p>We follow PBIS in our school. \u00a0Colors will be changes if students are not safe, responsible and respectful. \u00a0I would appreciate your support in the decisions I make at school. \u00a0I always try to be fair.<\/p>\n<p>There are 3 steps to homework. \u00a0First, they must take it home. \u00a0Next, they must complete it. Last, (most important) they must bring it back.<\/p>\n<p>Grading follows the report card. 1- 95%-100% \u00a02- 80%-94% \u00a03- 70%-79% \u00a04- below 69% \u00a0Students are encourage to turn in their best effort. \u00a0Effort is always considered in their grade&#8230;even if their answers may not be correct.<\/p>\n<p>Spelling words will be given every Monday. \u00a0Words will be written in their planners. \u00a0A list will be inside their desk for practice at school. \u00a0I WILL NOT post them on my BLOG. \u00a0Third grade is a year for our children to become more independent.<\/p>\n<p>They best way to contact me is via email: \u00a0minerj@dearbornschools.org<\/p>\n<p>Please remember that we are a part of a team. \u00a0I hope to work with you and your child. \u00a0Matters can always be settled peacefully.<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to teaching your children. \u00a0Thank you for the opportunity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh my goodness&#8230;can you believe your child is in 3rd grade already? \u00a0Didn&#8217;t they just start kindergarten?
