The first was assigned over the weekend, and is from <em>Time<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students were assigned to read, annotate, and identify reasons that ads SHOULD appear in schools, as well as reasons that ads SHOULD NOT appear in schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, they worked as a class to identify difficult words and read through the article together, making more sense of it for themselves the 2nd time around.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, they were assigned a partner to work with and to list on a T-Chart 3 quotes to explain why ads SHOULD appear in schools, as well as 3 quotes supporting that ads SHOULD NOT appear in schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday, we will assign and annotate a second article, from <em>Junior Scholastic Magazine<\/em>, which provides pros and cons of school ads.  Students will add to their list of evidence, and select the strongest viewpoint to write from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Homework:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monday:<strong> Read for 20 minutes and record 2 metacognitive reactions.  Six reactions will be due Thursday.  Finish listing 3 reasons ads SHOULD be in schools and 3 reasons that they SHOULD NOT.<\/strong> Study for Thursday&#8217;s test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuesday:  Read for 20 minutes and record 2 metacognitive reactions.  Six reactions will be due Thursday.  <strong>Read and annotate &#8220;Should Kids See Ads at School?&#8221; with 8 reactions per page.  Also, underline 3 or more pieces of evidence in blue that support school ads, and 3 or more pieces of evidence in yellow that are against school ads.<\/strong>  Study for Thursday&#8217;s test. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wednesday:  Read for 20 minutes and record 2 metacognitive reactions.  Six reactions will be due Thursday.  <strong>Make sure you and your partner have at least 6 pieces of evidence to choose from for each side of your argumentative CER paragraph.<\/strong>  Study for Thursday&#8217;s test. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thursday: Test today!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday: Mr. Melvin will be out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week, we have a busy week filled with reading and writing.
