{"id":1607,"date":"2019-06-11T07:24:02","date_gmt":"2019-06-11T11:24:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/melvinj\/?p=1607"},"modified":"2019-06-11T07:24:02","modified_gmt":"2019-06-11T11:24:02","slug":"5th-to-6th-grade-summer-learning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/melvinj\/2019\/06\/11\/5th-to-6th-grade-summer-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"5th to 6th grade summer learning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>If you are coming from one of our elementary schools to be a 6th grader at Stout next year, listen up!\u00a0 You should begin reading two books at or near your reading level.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students will read one or two books of their choice at their reading level.\u00a0 Students who know their reading level can find a book at their level by visiting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fab.lexile.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/fab.lexile.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1558548252632000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFimC5yoZoE3szSQw7_RuI8bHlEUg\">lexile.com.<\/a>\u00a0 They should prepare by buying or checking out a book, especially if they plan to travel abroad.\u00a0 Additionally, they could find an ebook to read if a device is their only way to read.<\/li>\n<li>After reading, students should create a \u2018one-pager,\u2019 that shows the protagonist (main character) from their book in hand-drawn pictures and includes possible themes, important quotes that show changes in the protagonist, and the page numbers where those quotes can be found.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stout.dearbornschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1200\/2019\/05\/One-Pager-Examples.pdf\">One Pager Examples<\/a><\/li>\n<li>This information is spelled out in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stout.dearbornschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1200\/2019\/05\/One-Pager-Directions.pdf\">Instructions Sheet<\/a>\u00a0attached here, as well as in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stout.dearbornschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1200\/2019\/05\/5th-Grade-Summer-Learning-One-Pager-Rubric.docx\">Rubric<\/a>.\u00a0 Each completed one pager earns the student 5 summative points (up to 2 may be completed).<\/li>\n<li>Students or parents with questions should comment on the blog post or sign up for the incoming 5th grade class\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stout.dearbornschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1200\/2019\/05\/Stout-Summer-Remind.pdf\">Remind<\/a>\u00a0(see attached sheet for instructions).<\/li>\n<li>One-pagers will be due August 29th, but may be brought earlier in the week to turn in.\u00a0 It makes a good first impression if you turn them in early \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are coming from one of our elementary schools to be a 6th grader at Stout next year, listen up!\u00a0 You should begin reading two books at or near your reading level.
