Week of 12/3-12/7 (Character Traits, Liar, Liar, and Tone/Mood Quiz)

This week in class, we’ll be working with the book Liar, Liar some more.  Students may work in class to complete their packets, or may buy a copy of the book for $1 from Mr. Melvin so that they can work at home.  Students will also be visiting the Book Fair on Monday.  If they bring money, they will be able to purchase books, supplies, posters, etc.  If they do not, they can still purchase books on Thursday, as long as they know exactly what they want to buy.  Students will not be able to purchase on Tuesday and Wednesday, as those days are reserved for 7th and 8th graders, respectively.

We will continue to write ‘Someone Wanted, But So‘ summaries for each chapter.  If your summaries are longer than 1 or 2 sentences, you’ve included too many details and not enough of the big ideas of the chapter.

We will record those details in our WALTR Watcher on the fourth page of the packet, and on our Trait Tracker, which is the fifth page of the packet.

On Monday, students will continue to work with the character traits they’ve brainstormed for themselves, and will choose their strongest 3 traits to write about.

Students will be writing C.E.R. paragraphs for each of their chosen character traits, in a warm-up to do the same with Kevin, from Liar, Liar.  While choosing traits that they like about themselves, they will probably find a lack of likable traits about Kevin.

We will begin drafting this week in class, and students may be responsible for some writing homework this week if they don’t finish in class.  Otherwise, they will definitely be responsible for this homework:
