I am looking forward to a wonderful week! I hope you all enjoyed the long Memorial Day Weekend!! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>This week we will begin the ABC Countdown to the last day of school. We are going to do 2 letters a day for a couple of weeks. This will be a fun way to review letters and sounds before zooming off to kindergarten! <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Tuesday- I (Ice Cream for Mrs. Mehrhof\u2019s birthday!) J (Jump up and down to music)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Wednesday- K (We will make Kites and read a book about Kindergarten!) L (Lolipops!)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Thursday- M (We will make masks!) N (Do something extra NICE)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Friday- O (Opposites!) P (Picnic for snacktime; bring a blanket or towel)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Reading: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week we will continue to practice the Three Ways to Read a Book as well as we practice identifying features of narrative stories.. We will also practice comparing the experiences of characters within these books. \u00a0We will practice the following literacy skills:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identifying letters and their sounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Producing pairs of rhyming words. (ex. dish\/wish)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading emergent level texts and knowing where to begin reading on the page.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blending the beginning sound with the rime in words from the -ub family. (ex. tub, rub)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stretching for the sounds in three letter words and identifying the letter that makes the sounds in the beginning, middle, and end of the word..<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identifying the sight words (blue) and (said). (review)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Counting syllables in words.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Please review: All upper and lowercase letters and practice writing them! Please review the following sight words: a, the, see, to, like, my, you, I, it, in, said, for, am, make, here, can, is, up, do, big, little, yes, have, jump, she, did, he, red, so, not, go, green, will, him, down, find, good, please, come, one, two, has, very, us, cpme.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Math: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will work on counting to 100 and recognizing\/writing numbers and their quantities 1 to 20. We will begin a new math unit on addition and subtraction to 10!!! Please encourage your child to count, show the quantity to match numbers, and talk about addition and subtraction stories with objects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Science:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We will continue our science unit about Ecosystems. We will continue to discuss what living and non-living mean as we identify what makes something living. This week we are will learn more about plants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Social Studies: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0We will continue a unit called \u201cWhere am I\u201d. We will review position words such as up, down in, out, beside, in between. We are also working with a program called Second Step. This program helps us learn about rules, social skills, and how to handle our emotions. This week we will practice how to be a problem solver.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Writing:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We will focus on narrative writing. This is writing that tells a story. The students will work on writing that tells about an event they experienced featuring a beginning, middle, and end.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Homework Everyday:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Count to 100 by 1\u2019s and 10\u2019s. Write numbers 1-10.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use objects at home to practice hands on addition and subtraction up to 10.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Write sight words in shaving cream or sand with parent supervision<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Practice letter formation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read books for 15 minutes!\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Thank you for all you do!
