Hello Families!<\/p>\n

Today we celebrated the children’s accomplishment of raising over $1,400.00 for Jump Rope for Heart! This money will go towards helping children with heart problems. What a worthy cause! Great job, Oakman Lions!!! So….today we celebrated with a jump rope contest and silly stringing not only teachers, but also our principal, Mr. Abu-Rus!<\/p>\n

We had a great time at the Jump Rope for Heart Celebration! Thanks, Coach Southers for organizing this for us!<\/p><\/div>\n

Please be sure to read for 15 minutes each day and record the titles and minutes read on the back of the Minion paper for our March is Reading Month reading contest. And\u2026. to help your child become a better reader. And\u2026.to continue to foster a love for reading and love for books!<\/b><\/p>\n

Reading: <\/b>This week we will continue to practice the Three Ways to Read a Book as well as identifying the features of narrative stories. (ex, characters, setting, problem\/solution). We will practice the following literacy skills:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Identifying letters and their sounds while writing the letters. <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Producing pairs of rhyming words. (ex. frog\/log)<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Reading emergent level texts and knowing where to begin reading on the page.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Blending the beginning sound with the rime in words from the -op family. (ex. hop, pop)<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Stretching for the sounds in three letter words and identifying the letter that makes the sounds in the beginning, middle, and end of the word..<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Identifying the sight words (green) and (will).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Please review: All upper and lowercase letters! Please review the following sight words: a, the, see, to, like, my, you, I, it, in, said, for, am, make, here, can, is, up, do, big, little, yes, have, jump, she, did, he, red, so, not, go<\/b><\/p>\n

    Math: <\/b>We will work on counting to 100 and recognizing\/writing numbers and their quantities 1 to 20. \u00a0We will also practice finding the sums for addition problems up to 5. We will also continue learning about subtraction using objects. <\/span><\/p>\n

    Science:<\/b> We will begin a new science unit about Ecosystems. We will first discuss what living and non-living means as we talk about living things need.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Social Studies: <\/b>\u00a0We will continue a unit called \u201cWho am I?\u201d. We will continue to talk about ways we measure time in terms of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We will also talk about ways we can learn about the past. We are also working with a program called Second Step. This program helps us learn about rules, social skills, and how to handle our emotions. We have been focusing on what to do when we have a strong feeling. We practiced identifying the feeling, talking about it, and taking belly breaths. <\/span><\/p>\n

    Writing:<\/b> We will practice narrative writing as we focus on telling a narrative with a beginning, middle, and end. We will also review the features of narrative writing. Please encourage storytelling with writing and drawing at home!<\/span><\/p>\n

    Homework Everyday:<\/b><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Count to 100 by 1\u2019s and 10\u2019s. Write numbers 1-10.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Use objects at home to practice hands on addition and subtraction up to 10.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Read books for 15 minutes! <\/span>Record the title and minutes read on the back of the Minion paper.<\/b><\/li>\n
    • Draw a picture and label the drawing<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Practice letter formation<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Make and play a memory match game with sight words on cards.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Play one math game and one ABC game on ABCya.com<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
