Happy 23rd week of Young 5s! I hope you all enjoyed the Mid-Winter Break! I am excited for the great things we will be doing this week at school!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>*100th Day of School is on Thursday!\u00a0 I seriously cannot believe it is the 100th of school on Thursday already! Time is zooming by for sure! I am encouraging all of the children to dress up as if they are 100 years old! Have fun and be creative with this! : ) (ex. gray hair, mustache, dress in an outfit that a 100 year old person might wear.)\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>March 1st is also the kickoff to MARCH IS READING MONTH!!! There will be much more information on these activities to come!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Reading: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week we will continue to practice the Three Ways to Read a Book as well as identifying the features of narrative stories. (ex, characters, setting, problem\/solution). We will practice the following literacy skills:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identifying letters and their sounds while writing the letters. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Producing pairs of rhyming words. (ex. frog\/log)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading emergent level texts and knowing where to begin reading on the page.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blending the beginning sound with the rime in words from the -ig family. (ex. twig, wig, jig)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stretching for the sounds in three letter words and identifying the letter that makes the sounds in the beginning, middle, and end of the word..<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identifying the sight words (go) and (not).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Please review: All upper and lowercase letters! Please review the following sight words: a, the, see, to, like, my, you, I, it, in, said, for, am, make, here, can, is, up, do, big, little, yes, have, jump, she, did, he, red, so<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Math: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will work on counting to 100 and recognizing\/writing numbers and their quantities 1 to 20. \u00a0We will also practice finding the sums for addition problems up to 5. We will also begin learning about subtraction using objects. We will celebrate the 100th Day of school with activities that encourage us to count to 100!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Science:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We will begin a new science unit about Ecosystems. We will first discuss what living and non-living means as we talk about living things need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Social Studies: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0We will continue a unit called \u201cWho am I?\u201d. We will continue to talk about ways we measure time in terms of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We are also working with a program called Second Step. This program helps us learn about rules, social skills, and how to handle our emotions. We have been focusing on what to do when we have a strong feeling. We practiced identifying the feeling, talking about it, and taking belly breaths. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Writing:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We will practice narrative writing as we focus on telling a narrative with a beginning, middle, and end. We will also review the features of narrative writing. Please encourage storytelling with writing and drawing at home!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Homework Everyday:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Count to 100 by 1\u2019s and 10\u2019s. Write numbers 1-10.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use objects at home to practice hands on addition and subtraction up to 10.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read books for 15 minutes!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Draw a picture and label the drawing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Play one math game and one ABC game on ABCya.com<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One more thing&#8230;.Officer Aaron from the Dearborn Police Department has an Instagram site for Dearborn families. If you have the Instagram app and would like to follow him, please subscribe by following him on Instagram @officer_aaron_ He will be offering safety tips as well as featuring some of the family events and activities in Dearborn. Officer Aaron is a school officer in our district. He has visited our classroom to read stories and talk to the children about making safe choices.
