Happy 17th week of Young 5s! Happy New Year too! My prayer for all of us is for 2018 to be one that brings an abundance of love, peace, and joy! I know I get joy when I see the faces of my adorable students greeting me each morning. I can see the excitement to learn in their beautiful little eyes! I am looking forward to what unexpected surprises as well as the goals we will reach in 2018! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Reading: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week we will continue to practice the Three Ways to Read a Book as well as identifying main idea\/topic and key details of informational texts as we learn the importance of asking questions to learn more about the topic. We will learn about polar bears! We will practice the following literacy skills:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identifying letters and their sounds while writing the letters.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Producing pairs of rhyming words. (ex. frog\/log)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">long vowel i sound in words that end with super e. (ex. like, mile)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reading emergent level texts and knowing where to begin reading on the page.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identifying the ending sounds in words.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identifying the sight words do and look.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Please review: All upper and lowercase letters! Please review the following sight words: a, the, see, to, like, my, you, I, it, in, said, for, am, here, can, is, make, up<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Math: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will work on counting to 100 and recognizing\/writing numbers and their quantities 1 to 12. We will continue to learn more about 2D shapes! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Science:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We will talk about the different types of weather, (rainy, snowy, sunny, partly cloudy, and cloudy) We will record the day\u2019s weather on our weather graphs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Social Studies: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0We will continue a unit called \u201cHow do we get what we need and want?\u201d. We will discuss what is meant by a want and what we can do to earn and get the things we want. We are also working with a program called Second Step. This program helps us learn about rules, social skills, and how to handle our emotions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Writing:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We will work on informational writing. We will write facts about polar bears. We will also use the RAN chart as we look at informational texts about polar bears. \u00a0This is a chart to help children read and analyze non fiction text. We will also use the internet to research information about polar bears! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Homework Everyday:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Count to 100 by 1\u2019s and 10\u2019s. Write numbers 1-10.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read books for 15 minutes!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Write first name and last name<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please have fun working with your child! Please take the time to help your child visit starfall.com and ABCya.com (Pre-K and K). These are great websites that offer educational and fun games!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thank you for all you do!
