Please sign in at the office upon arrival to the school.<\/p>\n<p>Happy 9th week of kindergarten! Tomorrow is Halloween! We hope you had a chance to come to our Boo Bash! It was a super fun event! We will welcome in the month of November. We are looking forward to another amazing week!<\/p>\n<p>Your child can wear a costume tomorrow for a $1.00 donation to PTA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, November 3rd is Care to the Core Rally!<\/strong> This is an Anti-Bullying event. Please consider coming to this fun family event with your family. This event is free and will feature uplifting music, prizes, and teach us ways to positive behavior choices. It will take place at the Michael A, Guido Theater at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center on Michigan Ave. in Dearborn at 6:00 PM.<\/p>\n<p>Daylight savings ends on Sunday. Remember to set your clocks back one hour.<\/p>\n<p>Friday,\u00a0 November 4<sup>th<\/sup>, is a half day! Pick up will be at 11:45.<\/p>\n<p>There will be no school on Tuesday, November 8<sup>th<\/sup> for our students.<\/p>\n<p>Homework: Practice letters, books, and sight words in your child\u2019s reading bags. Write first name and last name, count to 100, write numbers 1-20. We have been noticing that books and items are missing from the reading bags we are sending home. Please help your child to put these items back in their reading bags when you are finished with them at home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spelling: Please help your child practice writing the following letter this week: Ll and Ff. \u00a0In addition, please help your child practice writing his\/her first name. <u>*The test will be on Friday!<\/u> <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>L<\/li>\n<li>l<\/li>\n<li>F<\/li>\n<li>f<\/li>\n<li>Your child\u2019s <strong>first name and last name<\/strong>. Please be sure there are no backwards letters and that only the first letter in each part of the name is uppercase. The rest of the names should be lowercase. Recognizing and writing names are very important and will be practiced every day!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Ex. Ryan Smith\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 not\u2026RYAN\u00a0 or ryansmith.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading: <\/strong>This week we will continue our first unit on informational reading. We will continue to learn the differences between a fiction and non-fiction book. We will work on building our comprehension skills by identifying the main topic of an informational book. The children will also practice using the knowledge they have about letter sounds to stretch (or segment) words for the sounds they hear to phonetically spell. We are still practicing our independent Daily 5 time with Read to Self, Work on Writing, and Word Work. Please encourage your child to read their sight words and books from their reading bags each day! <strong>Please practice the following sight words: (These are words your child needs to recognize and read by sight.)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Review: have\u00a0 you\u00a0\u00a0 me<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NEW words this week will be: up\u00a0\u00a0 no\u00a0 and<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Math: <\/strong>We will continue to practice recognizing and writing numbers 0-20 as well as representing the quantity the number represents. We will also continue to practice counting to 100 by 1\u2019s and 10\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science:<\/strong> We will continue learning about the 5 senses. We will conduct our next science investigation this week using the 5 senses as well as the scientific process of investigating a question with a hypothesis and using data to determine the results. We will focus on investigations with leaves!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies: <\/strong>\u00a0I will introduce a unit that teaches our students about needs and wants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing:<\/strong> We will continue our first informational writing unit. This week the children will learn that informational writing is factual writing about a topic. In kindergarten, at this time of the year, I expect the children to use their drawing oral dictation to tell one fact about the topic we are writing about. The children will learn the concept of what is a fact.<\/p>\n<p>I appreciate the comments left from all of you when you read the blog!!! Your comments mean a lot to me.
