Hello Families!<\/p>\n

Today was another fantastic day at Miller!<\/p>\n

We practiced identifying non-fiction books and what makes these books non-fiction. I read a non-fiction book called “The Pumpkin Book” by Gail Gibbons. Gail Gibbons is a well known author of informational books. The children and I brainstormed a list of facts about pumpkins from the book.<\/p>\n

We also practiced stretching for the sounds in words as we wrote facts about pumpkins. Here is an example of what I mean by stretching for the sounds. This is what a “stretched” sentence would like in kindergarten. This is also called phonetic spelling.<\/p>\n

ex. Pumkns have sedz insid. (Pumpkins have seeds inside.)<\/p>\n

ex. Pumkns gro on the grnd in sol. (Pumpkins grow on the ground in soil.)<\/p>\n

We also exercised our fine motor skills as we tore paper to create our own jack-o-lanterns. The children traced their own oval and cut it out. They also used 2D shapes to create the face for their jack-o-lantern.<\/p>\n

In addition, we prepared out little pumpkins for painting tomorrow by giving our pumpkins a “bath”. The children will be painting pumpkins tomorrow morning. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

We are 10 canned goods short of meeting our classroom goal of collecting 100 canned goods. Please help us reach our goal of 100 canned goods to feed people in need.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow is the Miller School pumpkin patch. We are SOOOOO excited for this event!<\/p>\n

Friday, your child is encouraged to wear black and orange to school! They are allowed to wear a Halloween shirt or headband, but please no costumes. Costumes can be worn at Boo Bash that evening after school.<\/p>\n

SURPRISE on Monday!!!- We are inviting parents to come to Kindergarten at 2:00 to join us for math games!<\/p>\n

Homework: We were introduced to the letter Gg today! Your child can bring in a drawing or picture of something that begins with the sound for Gg. Always practice writing sight words and counting to 100.<\/p>\n

Please remember the writing test will include writing P, p, G, g, and FIRST and LAST names. Thanks!!! The test is on Friday!<\/p>\n
