Some of you may have noticed that we have made a slight adjustment to the morning drop-off. We are asking that you say good-bye to your child while they are IN LINE on the blacktop. Please DO NOT follow us up the sidewalk to the door. There are many reasons for this. First we are trying to build independence. All kindergarteners are more than capable of following the line by themselves. Plus it makes them feel like a big kid when they walk by themselves. When parents follow the line to the door, it creates a ‘traffic jam’ and makes it harder for the kids to get in the door. If kids are running up to join the line, they often cannot see their teacher or their classmates. We are also asking that you do not walk up the windows and watch as we walk in. For kids that are having a hard time separating, this makes it HARDER! They see you through the window and cry harder. Most kids stop as soon as they are in the room, but if they see you (sometimes it doesn’t even have to be THEIR parent but ANY parent), they continue to cry. It would be a huge help if you say your goodbyes at the line.

We are also asking that when you pick up in the afternoon, you stand back from the door. There are 2 classes that come out each door with 22 kids in each. We need space to get all the way out of the school. If you stand right at the door, we can’t get out. If you stand back, we can see you and we will send your child to you as soon as we do.
