{"id":85,"date":"2020-03-29T15:30:40","date_gmt":"2020-03-29T19:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mashram\/?p=85"},"modified":"2020-03-29T15:30:41","modified_gmt":"2020-03-29T19:30:41","slug":"tips-to-deal-with-anxiety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/mashram\/2020\/03\/29\/tips-to-deal-with-anxiety\/","title":{"rendered":"Tips to Deal with Anxiety"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> We are in the midst of a global pandemic and a national emergency.\u00a0 Governor Whitmer has issued a &#8220;Stay-at-home&#8221; order and many businesses, along with schools, are closed for the time being.\u00a0 These are unprecedented times that are creating very drastic changes and stressful situations.\u00a0 Many times, uncertainty and worry can lead to stress and anxiety for people.\u00a0 As the rate of spread continues to increase, we will undoubtedly be affected personally or know someone that is.\u00a0 As the epidemic worsens, so may the stress and anxiety.\u00a0 Home lives may be hectic in light of events and priorities for many will be the health and safety of their families.\u00a0 We also have many parents that are now mandated to work from home as their kids are with them; so home routines may not be as easy to navigate and could create some added tension.\u00a0 So I wanted to share some tips and strategies to focus on the mental health of ourselves and our families during this time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The Anxiety and Depression Association of America (<a href=\"https:\/\/adaa.org\/tips\">https:\/\/adaa.org\/tips<\/a>)\u00a0recommends the following coping strategies in times of stress or anxiousness:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Take a time-out.<\/strong>&nbsp;Practice yoga, listen to music, meditate, get a massage, or learn relaxation techniques. Stepping back from the problem helps clear your head.<\/li><li><strong>Eat well-balanced meals.&nbsp;<\/strong>Do not skip any meals. Do keep healthful, energy-boosting snacks on hand.<\/li><li><strong>Limit alcohol and caffeine<\/strong>, which can aggravate anxiety and trigger panic attacks.<\/li><li><strong>Get enough sleep.<\/strong>&nbsp;When stressed, your body needs additional sleep and rest.<\/li><li><strong>Exercise daily<\/strong>&nbsp;to help you feel good and maintain your health.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>Take deep breaths<\/strong>. Inhale and exhale slowly.<\/li><li><strong>Count to 10 slowly<\/strong>. Repeat, and count to 20 if necessary.<\/li><li><strong>Accept that you cannot control everything<\/strong>. Put your stress in perspective: Is it really as bad as you think?<\/li><li><strong>Laugh!<\/strong>&nbsp;A good laugh goes a long way.<\/li><li><strong>Maintain a positive attitude<\/strong>. Make an effort to replace negative thoughts with positive ones.<\/li><li><strong>Talk to someone.<\/strong>&nbsp;Tell friends and family you\u2019re feeling overwhelmed, and let them know how they can help you.
