Week of March, 11 2019

This week we are continuing with our March is Reading Month and Spirit Week activities. The students are also earning raffle tickets for a chance to win a new bike. They receive their first ticket after reading 30 pages and another ticket for each additional 10 pages read.

 

This week:

Spelling: The words are: hire, earth, learn, retire, early, heard, earn, tire, fire, fear,  conclusion, believe,  purpose, economy, and resources

They are to complete vocabulary match and ABC order in iLearn as their word work this week.

Math: We are continuing our unit on area. We will begin finding the area of composite shapes.

Social Studies: We will continue our unit on The Economy of Michigan. When you see the completed packets come home, use them as a study guide for our upcoming test.

Science: We are continuing our unit on animal behaviors and adaptations. Students have been working on an Animal Adaptations Hyperdoc. Once they complete the hyperdoc they will create a presentation of their choosing to display their understanding.

Writing: We working on an informational piece comparing two different animals. This ties in with our science unit.

Daily 5- We are focusing on cause and effect relationships.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great holiday. I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

Spelling words – pattern – blends

Math – We will continue Unit 5. In this unit we will be studying place value to the millions, fractions, multiplication, division, and graphing.

Science – We will be wrapping up our unit on light and sound.

Social Studies – We are beginning a unit on the Government of Michigan. In this unit students extend their civic perspective from second grade local government to state government.

Writing – 

Week of 12/12/16

Spelling words – pattern – blends

Math – We are beginning Unit 5. In this unit we will be studying place value to the millions, fractions, multiplication, division, and graphing.

Science – We will continue studying light and sound. We will wrap up light this week and move onto sound next week.

Social Studies – We will continue studying the history of Michigan. The unit test will be on Thursday, December 15.

Writing – We are working on narratives. Students are writing stories about a Superhero. We are going through the entire writing process and hoping to have this published and on display soon.

*** Please send in any donations for our gingerbread houses by Monday. That will give me time to purchase any needed items.

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

 

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue reading

Math – We began a unit on measurement. Will will practice measuring objects to the nearest quarter inch.

Science – We will continue studying force and motion.

Social Studies – We will continue studying the geography of Michigan. We will focus on the state symbols and the natural characteristics of Michigan.

Writing – We are working on narratives/realistic pieces. We are going through the entire writing process and hoping to have this published and on display soon.

Week of 10/3/16

I am looking forward to another great week. Here are some things that we’ll be studying this week and next week:

Spelling words – pattern long and short e

each, met, meet, tell, rest, wet, seem, well, best, teach, feet

content words – addition, subtraction, sum, Michigan, lakes

Math – We will continue math groups/rotations with adding and subtracting whole numbers.

Science – We will continue studying force and motion. We will begin exploring magnets.

Social Studies – We will continue studying the geography of Michigan. We will focus on land forms and bodies of water ( The Great Lakes).

Writing – We will begin a unit on opinion writing.

Week of 9/12/16

I’m looking forward to another great week! Thank you to those of you who have joined our blog and Class Dojo!

My goal is to post and send spelling words home on Friday’s. We will take spelling tests on Friday’s and then review our new words. This week’s words are short a and long a words.

Short a words: trap,can, cap, man,

Long a words: lane, ate, tape, cape, late, cane

Starting next week we will also have 5 content are words.

 

REMINDER: Open House is Thursday, September 15th from 6:00 in the gym with Mrs. Jakubus, then the 6:30 meeting in my room, and closes up at 7:30. There will be a book fair from 6:30 -8:00 pm.
