Welcome to Mr. Kontos’ Computer Applications iblog Page

Welcome to Computer Applications class with Mr. Kontos.  As society continues to push forward into the 21st century, our modern world now more than ever is integrated with technology and electronics in nearly all aspects of life.  This interconnectivity has truly allowed the “global village” to become a reality, and those who are able to leverage this technology will have a distinctive advantage in the years ahead. To help students prepare for a professional, social and academic world dependant on technology, we will begin to explore various computer related topics and learn how the appropriate use of technology can make us more productive, efficient, cultured and informed.

In the coming semester you will be learning and practicing various computer skills related to the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps Suite and other computer based programs.  We will be working both individually and together to create projects that demonstrate our computer skills and creativity. In addition to working with computer applications we will also learn about different aspects of technology and how they interact with the world around us.  Students who take Computer Applications in Middle School and pass with a C or better have the opportunity to fulfill the graduation requirement and will not have to take the class again in High School. To meet these requirements there will also be a final project and test at the end of the semester.  This can give students an advantage in High School as it will free up schedule time where they can explore other areas of internet (including higher levels of computer classes). Additionally many students will find the skills learned in Computer Applications will help them in their Middle School and High School classes.

While we are learning and working there are a few expectations that must be followed so that we can create an environment in which everyone can thrive and do their best.  This includes respecting yourself, respecting others and respecting the technology and property in the room. While working in the computer lab we will adhered to the Dearborn Schools and Woodworth Middle school student code of conduct.  I look forward to a fun, informative and productive Semester ahead.
