How do you like this rain? I do not ;-). We have a short week, but let’s make it a good one! We will not have a spelling test on Tuesday, but I will post the words that students will be tested on on December 1. <\/p>\n

Many parents expressed concern about spelling during parent-teacher conferences. Although it is important for students to learn, read, and use spelling patterns in their writing, please do not dedicate more than a few minutes each night studying spelling words. Your time is better spent reading and writing with your child. I promise that your child will greatly benefit from looking at and studying words in print in the context of a book rather than a spelling list. I strongly urge you to shift your focus from memorizing spelling words to reading language-rich stories and nonfiction texts. Let’s not worry about spelling test scores right now. Instead, let’s focus on helping our children learn to read and answer questions about books. If you should have any questions or concerns about this goal, please see me.<\/p>\n
Reading:<\/p>\n
This week we will continue to use nonfiction text features to locate information in informational books. <\/p>\n
Math:<\/p>\n
We will review story problems, telling time to the hour and half hour, and fact families. The students will take a test on Tuesday, so I will attempt to download a practice test following this post.<\/p>\n
Social Studies:<\/p>\n
I will be sending home a family tree project. Please read the directions carefully and complete this with your child over the Thanksgiving break. This should be a fun and engaging activity for you to do together!<\/p>\n
Science:<\/p>\n
We are continuing to learn about weather and seasonal patterns. We are looking at weather maps and charts to compare changes in the sky and weather.<\/p>\n
