After everyone is seated on the floor, choose one student who has entered following the directions (enter quickly and quietly [sitting by someone who would make this a good choice for them]) and ask if they would like to sit on a chair.<\/li>\n<li>Tell students that the chairs are for students who are \u201ccaught\u201d following directions, it\u2019s like the game of tag; that if a student asks for a chair, the teacher has to say no.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Review the rules for media class and explain the reasons for each:\n<ul>\n<li>Sit \u201ccriss cross\u201d (or \u201clike a pretzel\u201d), like mountains, or like a mermaid<\/li>\n<li>Hands are for helping<\/li>\n<li>Raise your hand and wait to be called on if you want to talk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Write the vocabulary words (above) on the board and review their meanings.\u00a0 Introduce the new words and ask students what the words mean.\u00a0 \u00a0Correct any misunderstandings.\u00a0 Explore connects that students make.<\/li>\n<li>Show the cover of each book and review elements of the cover (title, author, etc.).\u00a0 Point out the connect between the title and the illustration.\u00a0 What can they predict about the story using these elements?<\/li>\n<li>Read the book(s) [time permitting].\u00a0 Review predictions afterwards and determine accuracy.<\/li>\n<li>Line up students by their class numbers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Preview for Next Week:<\/h3>\n<p>Discuss the difference between buying and borrowing books.\u00a0 Why is it important to take care of things that are borrowed?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"side-columns\">\n<div class=\"col02\">\n<div class=\"pages-bottom\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col03\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 19, 2017 1st-3rd Grades Orientation\/Reintroduction to the Media Center Grade\/Class\/Subject: Media Skills, 1-3 grades Unit\/Theme: Introduction to the library Language Objectives: Students will identify the location of the media center.
