SNOW DAY!<\/strong>\u00a0 – I hope everyone stays warm and safe on our snow day.\u00a0 Try your best to stay off the roads if you can.<\/p>\n

Short week<\/strong> – We had a very short week with the school being closed twice.\u00a0 Because of this the SRA and Towers will not<\/strong> be due this week.\u00a0 I did however ask the students to take their spelling test yesterday in case school was closed.\u00a0 Only about 1\/2 of them got it done so please make sure your student has all their spelling activities done at home including the test.<\/p>\n

Online Portfolios<\/strong> – Students are learning a new program this week.\u00a0 It is an online portfolio called Mahara.\u00a0 This allows them to put their learning goals online and then show artifacts or evidence that they are improving.\u00a0 They can also do an online journal, students can type, add pictures, videos or sound clips.\u00a0 This portfolio can stay with them all the way thru high school.\u00a0 It will be a great way to watch your student grow academically.<\/p>\n

Online Reading Log –<\/strong> I would like each student to do one entry in Mahara the online reading log this week.\u00a0 Here is how you log in and add a journal entry:<\/p>\n

  1. Go to www.dearbornschools.org<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Click on Resources for students<\/li>\n
  3. Click on ePortolios<\/li>\n
  4. Sign in with Lunch card number and birthday (mmddyyyy)<\/li>\n
  5. Under My Portfolio click on My Third Grade Year<\/li>\n
  6. Click on Edit this page<\/li>\n
  7. Click on reading log<\/li>\n
  8. Click New entry<\/li>\n
  9. In the title section type the title and author of the book.\u00a0 Don’t forget to capitalize.<\/li>\n
  10. Then in the box below type your entry.<\/li>\n
  11. Below the box click save and they I can see the entry.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This will be an new options for reading logs.\u00a0 Student can do between 1 and 5 entries a week.\u00a0 An entry should be 3-5 sentences about the story.\u00a0 It would be great it students used their Depth of Knowledge questions in their reading logs.\u00a0 I will add the questions stems to Google Classroom so students can use them any time.\u00a0 Make sure to ask and answer<\/strong> the question.\u00a0 Here are the questions stems:<\/p>\n
