Weekly Focus!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend, its been very cold for me.

Thursday is open house I will send the time later this week, it is a chance for the parents to meet the teacher and sign up for conference. I hope to see everyone Thursday.  Friday is a half day

This week we will start with the spelling works and our spelling test will be every Friday.

This week we will be taking the reading and Language NWEA test. Students are being tested to determine their reading levels.

This week we will focus on:

Math: Students are getting used to the new math book, we started with multiplication last week and this week we are getting more into division. everyday with the math home students will be taking home a guide sheet to review what they have learned in school and to help them with the homework.

Social Studies: Last week we started our first unit which is Geography we were able to look at different places using good earth and students worked on “Me on the Map” project. This week we are going to continue with our geography unit and focus on cardinal directions and look at the natural resources in Michigan.

Reading: We are still exploring fiction texts this week.  We will be focusing on asking and answering questions in a complete sentence by restating the question in the answer.  Answering in complete sentences is a very important skill.  You can practice this at home with your child.  When asking them questions, have them respond to you in a complete sentence.

Writing:  We are learning how to do flash drafts or quick writes to get ideas onto paper.  This is the beginning process of developing stories.  You can help your child at home with this by having them orally tell you a story making sure it has a beginning, middle, end and some interesting details.

Science: We will continue exploring magnetic forces and focus on balanced and unbalanced forces.

If you have any questions you can always text me on remind.

Welcome to Third Grade!

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new year! I am really excited about being your child’s teacher this year. Third grade is going to be a year full of fun, learning, and lots of adventures and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us! Your child will be given tools and the opportunities to really explore knowledge. Much of your child’s success will be determined by the communication between school and home. I would like to welcome not only your child to my class, but you as well. I consider us a team in working towards a quality education for your child. I look forward to meeting each of you at our open house on September 13th.

Homework/ Tests

Each night check my iblog to find out what your child’s homework will be.   Your child will receive reading homework daily. It is very important for your child to read 20 minutes each night. In addition, they may have to complete any work that was not finished during the day or complete a review assignment for something that we have already done in class.  It is necessary for your child to complete all homework and have an adult look over the homework. Please do not do your child’s homework for them. Sometimes students will have math homework from the MobyMax site. Grades are given for homework. If your child does not understand the assignment and no one at home can give them assistance, simply write a note on the homework. This will help me to know what your child may still need to work on. In science, social studies, and math, your child will have a study guide to study from before taking tests in these subjects. All tests taken in class will be sent home for you to sign and return to school the next day.
