Week of 4/24

Tomorrow, Mon., is the last day for t-shirt orders.   These shirts will be worn on field day, leadership day, and our last field trip too! Each shirt is $5.  If you can not find your form, but would like to order a shirt, please send $5 with the size you would like to order tomorrow morning.  The shirts come in child small, medium and large, and adult small, medium and large.

All Tower of Books are due this Friday.  Please have your child bring in their book slips by Friday.

This Friday is the PBIS party.  The theme of the party this month is electronics.  If your child qualifies, he/she will be coming home with a permission slip on Tuesday to bring an electronic to school on Friday.  The electronics will only be used during the party.

The first graders are presenting at the Leader in Me assembly this Frday in the gym at 2:30.  Parents are welcome to attend.

As most of you know we have three very important events taking place in the last few weeks at Snow School. On May 6 our leadership skills will be showcased in a Leadership Day that celebrates our accomplishments as a first year Leader in Me School. District and community dignitaries will visit us for a student run exhibition of what Snow stands for. On Thursday, May 26, Snow School will host a Clean Up Parade at 9:30 am. On Friday, June 3, students and staff will participate in our annual Field Day.

To show our pride in our accomplishments and our commitment to our leadership program we are asking that all students and staff order a t-shirt that will be worn at these three events. The t-shirts are just $5 each. There is an order form coming home Thursday, April 21. The form and money need to be at Snow NO LATER than Monday, April 25. We apologize for the very short notice, but hope you are interested in making this vision of school unity a reality by having everyone in the same t-shirt at these events. Questions or concerns can be asked of Jo Anne Zechar, in the art room, a phone message or email zecharj@dearbornschools.org.
Thanks for your cooperation and initiative on the quick turnaround request. To see everyone at Snow in the same light blue shirt that reads, “We are Snow, Leaders” with a howling wolf image will make us stand out as we celebrate our great achievements this year.

This week and beyond….

This week and beyond….

Tomorrow  grades 1-5 of Snow School will be walking to Stout in the afternoon to watch Hairspray Jr.  The show is supposed to be spectacular, so please go see it this weekend if you get a chance and support music in the schools.  We will have a police escort at Oakwood since there will be so many of us!  We did not invite parents because there will not be enough room in the auditorium- sorry!  Please make sure your child wears comfortable walking shoes!

The math tests will be passed out tomorrow now that everyone has taken the test.  Please sign and return the test on Thursday.

This week in…

Language Arts, we will be working on our research of our wonder animal.  We had Mrs. Gwidz, the technology coordinator, from the District in today.  She had the students create their animals on Google Drawings.  The kids loved it!  The project is really coming together.  I am sorry to say that our spelling tests from last week got into an accident with my daughters hot chocolate.  Well…the hot chocolate won, so I will not be marking these tests.  Please remember that all Tower of Books slips are due next week Friday.  We have a couple students who have already completed the challenge!  How exciting!

Math, we will be starting Unit 8.  I feel this unit is challenging.  The students will be working with money, addition of numbers with tens and ones, and fractions.

Science, we will be studying the life cycle of the butterfly.  We will be creating books and using noodles to indicate the stage of the butterfly’s life.  This will also correlate with the District writing prompt that we will be giving next week.  We will be creating 3D animals in May since the students LOVED making their 3D robots last week.  Please keep collecting recyclable items (cereal boxes, straws, boxes, tissue boxes, paper towel rolls etc…)

Social Studies, we shared our Flat Stanley’s last week.  Thank you to everyone who participated!  It was interesting to see all of the places Stanley visited!

Have a wonderful week!

Week of April 11

Week of April 11

We had such a fun time at the Howell Nature Center on Friday!  The students had the experience to see a bobcat, porcupine, ferret among other animals.  We played a few educational games with animals as the focus such as predator and prey.  The kids were just fabulous!

This week in…

Language Arts, we will begin researching our “I wonder” question about an animal.   The vowel pattern in spelling this week is o-e.  We are continuing to discuss the comprehension strategies the students use when they read.  These strategies are very important to having them move to the next level in reading.

Math, we are finishing Unit 7 and will have a test this week Friday.  We will be creating 3D robots next Monday.  In order to make these robots, we need lots of 3D recycleable shapes.  Please send in any 3D shapes like cereal boxes, pizza boxes, paper towel tubes, toilet paper tubes…or anything that would work to make a 3D robot.

Science, we are beginning our unit on animals and living things.  This unit will take us until the end of the year!  We will begin by studying the life cycles of animals.

Social Studies, we will be discussing the physical and human characteristics in our surroundings.  A human example would be a school while a physical/natural example would be a tree.  We will be discussing how these things can be changed or modified also.

Have a wonderful week!
