Week of March 24

Week of March 24

It seems the weather is warming up!  Therefore, we will be going back to the warm routine of lining up outside before school.  This also means that the students can not bring toys to school.  Many students were bringing action figures and dolls during the “cold” days, but now we are going outside to play and will not need these things in the backpacks.  Let’s hope the weather continues.

This week is Spirit Week!  For $1 for the entire week, your child can enjoy some fun activities.  Here are the activities for the remainder of the week:

Tues- wear a button

Wed.- Wear Snow shirt or colors (blue/white)

Thurs- Wear a shirt with words

Friday-Wear your favorite sports team apparel

Tomorrow we will be going to the Book Fair in the morning.  we had to change our time due to a conflict in the schedule.  I will send the students who have money labeled with their name and Book Fair down to the sale first thing in the morning.

We will be going on our Field Trip this Thursday.   If you are chaperoning, please make sure you sign in at the office before coming to our class.  We will be eating lunch at 10:15, so please make sure the students have a snack to eat in the afternoon when we return.

If you would like to see me regarding your child’s progress, please let me know.  I will be here on Thursday night from 4-7.

Because of the trip and a change in our schedule, we will begin science experiments with volunteers next week Tuesday.  Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help!

This week is computer club after school for our group.

Have a great week!  Hope to see lots of families at Literacy Night on Wednesday from 6-7.  Check out our Super Hero writing in the hall!  We rock!

Week of March 17

Week of March 17

Spring has sprung! There are a lot of things happening in the next few days around the school.  Please check your child’s folder for info on Jump Rope for Heart,  Skate Night (March 20) , Literacy Night (March 26) and conferences (March 27).  The spring conferences are meant for any concerns we have for students.  However, if you would like to meet with me about a concern, please let me know and I can schedule a time for us to meet on March 27.

We will be having a penny store in class on Friday.  Please send your child to school with ten pennies in a bag with his/her name on it.

Miss Stetz and I are looking for a few parent helpers to scrape the snowmen on the windows away on Friday during the day.  If you can help, please let me know.

I am also looking for a parent to conduct some individual science experiments with  students in the afternoons on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  If you can help, even if it is only one day, please let me know.

I am very pleased with  he progress the students are making in spelling! Last week, almost every student received a “1” on the test!  This week, we are focusing on the -ig family!

Our writing this week focuses on opinion writing about our favorite super hero power!  The students are doing a fantastic job!  I am so proud of them!

Have a wonderful week!

We are having too many interruptions throughout our day.  Today I received 6 calls by 8:50 for forgotten lunches, shoes, water and snacks.  I have informed the office to hold everything that is dropped off after 8:35 until lunch and on the way to lunch I will check and see if there are any things that need to be picked up.  There have been many students that forget their snack and they just find something else to do during that time.  If your child forgets their shoes, they can wear their boots.  I need our class time to have as few interruptions as possible and I am asking for your help.  Thank you for your understanding in this manner.

I am also repeating that we do not have food treats for birthdays.  This expectation has been set since the first day of school.  We do have food allergies in our class and I need to know the ingredients in the food that is in our classroom.  Please respect the class rule and the health of the other students.  Thank you.

Week of March 10

Week of March 10

The storm is coming!  We are supposed to have a late start day tomorrow, so school will begin at 9:35 (if there is not a snow day:)!)

We are having a 3d shapes party on Thursday.  A note about the party is going home today.

Field trip notes went home yesterday.  I already have 4 chaperones and I am willing to take the first 7 on the bus with us.  Chaperones need to pay the $5. entrance fee also.

I am so proud of the student guest readers we have had so far!  The students are doing a wonderful job and they are so excited to read to everyone!

This week in…

Language Arts, we are working on inferences and character development.  The students are choosing characters for their narrative writing this week.  The spelling pattern is the -ag family.  We have had many students complete the sight word rainbow and I am so excited!

Math, we are focusing on shapes, graphs and pennies.  I brought in a bunch of pennies to school to do math, but many have disappeared with all of the hands on math we have been doing.  If you have any pennies to spare, we would love them.  We will be having a penny store next week.

Social studies, the students are completing their timelines with Ms. Stetz.

Science, we are following the scientific process to complete a few water experiments.

Have a wonderful week!
