Welcome back! It is hard to believe this is the last week of February!
Thank you for the boxes of tissues! It is amazing how many tissue boxes we are going through! Lots of germs flying around!
We will be sharing some of our writing next Monday at 3:15. We are calling this time “Author Party”! I would like to invite the parents/guardians to see some of the wonderful writing your child has completed! We will have a brief overview of the genres we have covered and then give you time to look at your child’s work! The entire process will be about 15 minutes so the students will be finished by the bell time! I hope you can come to see all of the progress your children are making in writing!
During the month of march, we will be celebrating March is Reading month in a variety of ways. One of the things we will be doing is having a daily Kindergarten student read to the class. Your child will be assigned a day to read to the other students. The children can read leveled books, picture books or can even read the pictures! A calendar will be sent home this week so you know what day your child will be reading!
This week in…
Language arts, we are focusing on vowels! we have been watching the Youtube video entitled “Vowel Bat”. The students love it! Our morning work contains words that are missing a vowel. While this can be tricky, I know the students will catch on quickly! In writing, we are focusing on personal narratives. We are making books that we will share on “Author Day” next Monday! Our word family this week for spelling is -am.
Math, we are focusing on measuring and subtraction. Mrs. Distelrath has sent home a note about a website known as “xtra math” that the students can do at home that will help them practice math facts. Look for the note in your child’s folder.
Science, we will be conducting an experiment that involves a penny and floating. We are doing lots of experiments for the upcoming Science Fair in May.
Social Studies, we are discussing our community.
Have a great week!
We are officially out of tissues. We have a lot of runny noses. If you could please send some in, we would love it!!! Thank you!
What a surprise the cold day was last Friday! Since we had off, the spelling test will be on Monday! The new list of words for the week will also be sent home tomorrow.
Wednesday is a late start. School begins at 9:35.
On Friday, we will celebrate the 100th day and Valentine’s Day too! There is a sign up list for 100 day treats outside of our class. I am also sending only one homework this week that is due on Friday. I sent a class list last week with the names of the students in the class. Please let me know if you need another list.
This week in Language Arts, we will be writing non-fiction pieces with a focus on Polar Bears. The students are really improving with their spacing and I am encouraging them to use lowercase letters unless it is the beginning of the sentence or word that require a capital letter. In reading, we are working on checking for understanding and comparing two texts. We have also been making a lot of comparisons between fiction and non-fiction texts.
Math, we will be focusing on graphing and measurement. In Kindergarten, we measure with non-standard units so you will see a bunch of work coming home where we measure with items like cheerios or paper snowflakes.
Science, we will be conducting experiments with wheels and force.
It will be a busy week! Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will be able to go outside for recess and release some of our cabin fever!
