\u201cIs equality a possibility?\u201d That\u2019s a question running through many people\u2019s minds for \u00a0such a long time now. We are in the 21st century and sexism is still a huge problem. Women are still being judged. Most people still believe that women aren\u2019t as strong,as smart,and as hard working. Most people think women are just there to look pretty and only know how to do their hair and make-up.\"photo-1\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Payday is a happy day for everyone\u2026well almost everyone. For every dollar a man makes a woman only gets 77 cents. This may not seem like much of a difference,but it is. Take Jennifer Lawrence for an example,she wrote an essay asking why she is being paid less than her American Hustle male co-stars. Unfortunately,Jennifer did not get the raise she asked for, She didn\u2019t \u00a0put up a real fight because she did not want to seem unlikeable and spoiled. Not only is there this huge wage gap with Jennifer Lawrence but even in colleges. The median weekly earning of a doctoral degree for a man it is $1,686 and for a woman it\u2019s $1,352. Women with Bachelor\u2019s degree make $650,000 less than a men with the same level of education.<\/p>\n

Does the name Shaquille O\u2019Neal ring a bell? What about Sue Bird? Maybe? Well,Shaquille O\u2019Neal is a male basketball player who gets paid $20,000,000 a year and Sue Bird is a female basketball player and she gets paid 87,000 a year. Sexism also appears in colleges,women athletes receive less than 26% of college sports\u2019 operating budget. Nour Bazzi,an eighth grader, tried out for the football team and was called out by the boys.\u201d They said \u2018You\u2019re
\na girl you can\u2019t play or throw\u2019\u201dExplained Nour. \u201dJust because you\u2019re a girl,doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t play \u00a0a sport ,sometimes girls could even play much better than \u00a0a guy. \u201dShe said.<\/p>\n

Everyone has a different definition in their minds of what feminist means to them. \u201dThey are strong and independent women who fight for what they believe in.\u201dsaid Andrea.Gloria Steniem is exactly what Andrea was talking about. Gloria Steniem is a feminist organizer. She\u2019s a spokeswoman on issues of equality. A quote of her\u2019s is \u00a0\u201cImagine we are linked, not ranked.\u201d<\/p>\n

However,there are people who believe that \u201cThere are some things women can\u2019t do,\u201d Ali Ishmail said.Salma also believes,\u201dNo matter what,there will be no equalities,because women expect so much out of men.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many people believe sexism is just one of the problems that will never disappear. What if women can play sports without being judged and taken seriously? Maybe one day women will be paid equally. What if equality is a possibility?<\/p>\n
