To some students it’s too much to donate when they spend about a dollar a day on many things like pop and junk food. Is a dollar too much?

In Unis middle School their are some grade level that go above and beyond in participating, and their are some that lack in participation. On Team Sports Day the average eighth-grade class had eleven people participating and/or donating out of the thirty-one. In the average seventh-grade class, fourteen people participated and/or donated out of the thirty-one. And in the average sixth-grade class their was seventeen people participating and/or donating out of the thirty. The eighth-grade should be trying to participate more since they only have eleven participaters. Don’t you think the numbers could be a little bit better, especially for the eighth-grade?

I spoke with eighth-grader Mohamed W. Dabaja and he said it’s the eighth-grade that participates the least. He simply said “The eighth-grade tends to act cool and say it’s for little kids”. He also added that “They are simply blind to doing the right thing”. This is true because if you look at the numbers the eighth-grade is the least participating grade. Dabaja also added that it’s very important to participate and it should be happening more. Mohamed Beydoun, an eighth-grader, had a similar view. Beydoun said that “Older people tend to get away from stuff like that because it’s looked upon as not cool, so the sixth-grade is doing the best”. The numbers prove this because the sixth-graders have an average of seventeen, which is the highest. Both of these eighth grade students participate as much as they can, even if they don’t dress up, they always donate.

On the other end of the spectrum, Ms. Agemy has a different visualization. Agemy said “Every year is different, but this year, the seventh-grade has been doing the best.”, Agemy also added, “The eighth-grade is doing pretty good, but, the sixth-grade is doing the worst”. She explained, “The sixth-grade is new to the school so it hasn’t acclimated to activities like these”. Agemy ended with “That overall the participation for everyone should increase, especially in the yearbook. “The hard work isn’t paying off”

Overall, everyone just wants to increase the amount of participation, but how? The answer is to just do it. Some grades, mostly the eighth, care about if their friends participate more than if they participate. Also some of the grades think it’s not cool to participate and dress up, but really, who cares? Aren’t you having fun? Also you are donating to charity.

In the end it’s good to donate to charity and in the process it can be very fun. So, answer this question, “does a dollar still sound like too much?”

Hussein Chami

Middle School Journalist

School charities like spirit days happen all the time, almost every week, and they are only a dollar each time.
