One of the best in the world is Ladawn McDay, a special education teacher at Ella Fitzgerald Elementary School in Detroit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/08\/Mc-Day1-300x280.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-388\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/08\/Mc-Day1-300x280-300x280.jpg\" alt=\"Mc-Day1-300x280\" width=\"300\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/08\/Mc-Day1-300x280.jpg 300w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/08\/Mc-Day1-300x280-280x261.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>McDay, 37, attended Wayne State University. She said, \u201cI got interested in bodybuilding from watching it for years on TV and being around competitors gave me the urge to compete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McDay won second place in the National Physique Committee\u2019s National Bodybuilding Bikini and Figure Championships in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>McDay\u2019s biggest accomplishment was at the 2010 International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness North American Championship, where she placed eighth in North America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf some competitors don\u2019t see results, they lose the urge to keep going,\u201d said McDay. \u201cI believe that bodybuilding is a sport often ignored by girls because of the negative thoughts of the use of steroids.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/livingtextbook.aaja.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/McDay2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-633\" title=\"McDay2\" src=\"https:\/\/livingtextbook.aaja.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/McDay2-145x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"145\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>My favorite part of body building is the individual posing routine because it shows that I am an individual and I am not being compared to the group.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>McDay has a very busy schedule. She goes to the gym at 5 a.m. and trains with Team Infinity. She works out on the weights for one hour and does her cardiovascular routine twice a day and walks at work during lunch.<\/p>\n<p>She said it took her only 16 weeks to achieve her goal of becoming a bodybuilder.<\/p>\n<p>McDay competes as a light heavyweight, where the weight requirement is 125-140 pounds.
