We are all asking “What electives did I get?” “Will they be fun?” “Are any of my friends in that class?”Needless to say we are all pretty nervous about the new semester and what it will bring.

However if you use Student Connect, a program accessible from home, you can find out your new classes by going to schedule and selecting show all. Needless to say, we are all probably nervous about this new semester, but have no fear! You’re not alone.

The electives currently being offered at Unis Middle School are 2-D Art, 3-D Art, Keyboarding, Computer Apps, Multimedia, P.E, Orchestra, Band, Journalism, and Leadership. All of these electives offer skills you may need to know later in life, and some of them are fun to participate in.

To find out more about what some students were nervous about for 2nd semester I spoke to Mariam Amin, an 8th grader at Unis Middle School. For 2nd semester Mariam received art 2d and journalism. “I am a little nervous about 2nd semester because art isn’t really a strong suit for me.” Mariam said about her worries for second semester.

Mariam stated she would rather have P.E because it is more in her comfort zone, she said it was fun and energetic. Mariam does wish that Unis still offered wood shop and home economics because “it will help you in the future.”.

Another worry that Mariam has about 2nd semester is that she believes the work will be harder and classes will be more intense. But, on the other hand, Marian is most excited about the upcoming sports and sunny weather that 2nd semester will bring.

I also spoke to 6th grader, Neven Talab, to see how students with the same year long electives are handling this new semester. Neven goes to gym every other day and has orchestra in between. Neven is nervous about her core classes, she wants to improve her grades in them. She is particularly nervous about math, “I am terrible at math,” she comments.

Neven thinks that the school should bring back the electives wood shop and home economics When I asked about what electives she preferred she replied “I’d rather have art and keyboarding”. Neven feels that gym is much more fun than orchestra “I look forward to it (gym)”. Neven, although nervous feels that she has improved in many classes and is hopeful for this new semester.

If you too are nervous about 2nd semester you should just relax and try your best, just be happy that winter is almost over and spring is on its way.

Manar Talab

Unis Middle School Journalist

Many students here in Unis Middle School are very nervous for the start of the new semester.
