The teacher slowly takes you to the back of the room and says\u00a8I didn\u2019t know we had a drill today!\u00a8 \u00a8Everyone stay quiet and go to the back and huddle.\u00a8 Your teacher turns the lights off, covers the windows, and joins the silence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5 minutes later, you hear your principal say \u00a8Good practice drill, kids!\u00a8 But you can&#8217;t help but wonder, what if this was real? You have heard of school shootings before, but never experienced the fear that comes with it.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/RLqTnImH-qHKdl1klx4D9iTJg4H7pqvWM1FI8gaXRQoQJE8XcljoqvL9TdOVZlCPvly931RAgY6_GornHoC4xe3EnhB9Px7QQHdP4rmjVoNk1yXXnzgvhpDNPz6KAwIfNO8NVzr7\" width=\"484\" height=\"275\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Safa, a 30-year-old mom of two little girls says \u00a8That&#8217;s the exact reason I don\u2019t want my daughters to go to school at a building, when she goes in, she may not come out.\u00a8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;A school shooting is when someone, with no exact reason, walks in and shoots innocent students, teachers, and administrators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/PjnpSDLKkfpkGrLv5jksDKWZ5jg6PKl96InoTpBe61sFmGc6-pD2o4u4oiaY9Dttn7jXGIRxh2kfCWUvFjBN8KX3MTr-vXqwb2n-IBKhGZ5tkF4MKe0P-kUhEKZOqynNGoEK8RKB\" style=\"width: 200px;\">Curtis Martin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Now generally this happens in schools with less security and the suburbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtis Martin the II, a high school teacher of 10 years at Lamar Consolidated High school in Texas which is an open-carry state responded,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a8I think it\u2019s becoming more normal, the generation has normalized it. It used to be okay to get into a fistfight because you either won, you lost or it was a draw, but that was it! Now, it\u2019s normal to fight, it\u2019s normal to legally draw a weapon.\u00a8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/eZh4ufvRHo-A-ftG-Pf04YHQHg-JhZCsucAEQdYSy0XKpVA7XeffyaeRPbwZQ8Rqq25C57Ft8AJi83ts_ldja8a7FO5ioiV5NNtxUjay2Me0hrw9vqOjJ7Z7ZBj_Cvmg5VWyJeit\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Some say school shootings occur because of mental health issues, anger problems, bullying, or just because they can. From 1982 to 2019 February, there were 118 school shootings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/g7ZWpUwtNpv7EZsNEfY1ywV7j-jVBs9qHZiKwCXrkHf4_jHyEN_8y69TxMcF1RQoecgEgVd0SJbFnOL0V0YEJMA1XbmabB8nWeY1eUw843TwbUV1L8QKaPbf5qyScvCSE_4oDbMU\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Osama Algalham<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;55% of those school shootings happened by white people, the other 45% happened by Asians, Latinos, Blacks, and other races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a020-year-old college student, Osama Algalham explained,\u00a0\u00a8I think it\u2019s because of how you grew up. LIke in the Arab or Black communities, you grow with thicker skin, you know the consequences of your actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Osama spoke his opinion by adding<em>,<\/em>\u00a8Another thing is in the Arab or Black communities, their parents are more involved in their personal life. Unlike some white communities, their parents are often more lenient. In those communities, you get kids who don\u2019t know If I do this, this will happen. They don&#8217;t understand consequences.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Kids and teens need healthy boundaries and discipline to become well rounded citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/ALvTC2g7fbF2OMRqjVhyzvYDRQfCAMjiPEZvBQXwDVO4fPDg_aUTAA8FQO6m4MVDbuwJv9Mw2QR2FEsOnL2Iedn1dQryNALdFNJrSBQ28k84xuHHTaOtb3vcwveVPZd_e-eIDge0\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0School shootings typically happen in suburban areas. Where there is less security. The aftermath is not that simple. Students\/teachers go through many things such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and grief.<br>10-year-old, Unis Algalham had this frightening answer, \u00a8 I&#8217;m scared, you know?<em> It could happen at any time!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"198\" height=\"335\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/d1xjibolA7Tu5jiDb7rczqwQYejcN7PrCDg1AfJlefjC6XHv_Q5E__HO6A-1rjtFVxR_0ts2a9cNeHKOLhdu3G5ee5jWte5hrXkCu3LeWs2uImAhyfz2HX_pLaqSfm1WgzzNJtY8\">Ahqam Algalham<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most schools enlist on-call grief counselors and mental\/emotional help (think support animals like dogs etc.) After the Santa Fe school shooting, bulletproof glass, metal detectors, and police officers were added to hallways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahqam Algalham, a brand new teacher at Salina elementary agrees. \u00a8I think that&#8217;s a good idea, I wouldn&#8217;t mind it, and it\u2019s only another precaution to keep my students and myself safe.\u00a8<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall school shootings are becoming more common than not. The majority\u00a0happens at suburban schools, with heartbreaking aftermath.
