That\u2019s why organizations like the Ronald McDonald house are so important. Since 1974, the Ronald McDonald house has been providing a \u201chome away from home\u201d for families to stay near the hospital where their children are being treated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to consistently provide and maintain a house that families can rely on for a good night of rest, food, warmth, and security while being away from their own homes.\u201d said Linda Porter, Ronald McDonald House\u2019s Event and Community Outreach Consultant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/RMHC-logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-305\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/RMHC-logo-300x157.jpg\" alt=\"RMHC-logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/RMHC-logo-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/RMHC-logo-280x146.jpg 280w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/RMHC-logo.jpg 467w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the many families who have stayed at the Ronald McDonald house while their child was in the hospital is the Faulkner family. When Meisha Faulkner was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, she required surgery and time at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of Meisha\u2019s stay at the hospital, her parents Lisa and Terrance Faulkner stayed at the Ronald McDonald House, which provided them a place to stay, rest and eat through the duration of Meisha\u2019s treatment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/IMG_0977.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-301\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/IMG_0977-169x300.png\" alt=\"IMG_0977\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/IMG_0977-169x300.png 169w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/IMG_0977-577x1024.png 577w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/IMG_0977-280x497.png 280w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2015\/01\/IMG_0977.png 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy husband and I stayed there for a week.\u201d Lisa Faulkner said. \u201cIt was a very pleasant place to stay and it was convenient since it was connected to the Children\u2019s Hospital, so we didn\u2019t have to go all the way home to shower and change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ronald McDonald House gives families their own room that includes beds, a bathroom, a kitchen, food and \u00a0toiletries, all of which are provided by the house for free. This is convenient for families since they have all the basic living necessities they need without having to travel all the way home, which means that they can be near their children during their stay at the hospital at all times. Besides this, the fact that the house is located near the hospital allows them to be there and back in a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really convenient and very considerate of parents who have to travel back and forth.\u201d said Terrance Faulkner. \u201cIt makes it easier for both parents to stay there without one having to go home and come back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Faulkner family isn&#8217;t the only family who has used the Ronald McDonald House while their child was sick.
