This oldie talks a lot about how colour doesn\u2019t make you a better or worse person and just about race altogether.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0But this wasn\u2019t the last time that this topic was touched in the music industry. We\u2019re talking about \u201cThis is America\u201d by Childish Gambino, \u201cThe Story of OJ\u201d by Jay Z, \u201cEverybody\u201d by Logic and a whole list that has these types of messages regarding race (or any kind of) issues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0Now, of course, these guys don\u2019t just make those songs for no reason. If you do some research and brush up on some history, you\u2019d probably be shocked to find out that the majority of these types of songs are made when some tragic event happens.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Although the Civil Rights Act was approved by Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, the United States is still plagued with racial tension and police brutality. That law was the first time our<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/3xMBukBaUVJSiR3QVxXY6IdfjZGKptQ8cceL4CFnHsCaPUWWp2lZLuV7Wf8aYC3q896JvLERfbzLVtXf6gFSDjJeBN5GpSgrN6S6B2JG\" \/> country made a decision to address discrimination and labour laws in the United States. It makes it against the law to keep people from working based on race, colour, religion, sex, or country of origin. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0Take \u201cThey Don\u2019t Really Care About Us\u201d (Which is another MJ song) for example. It was made in 1995, which was the same year of when a group of terrorists bombed one of the federal buildings in Oklahoma City, killing over 100 people and took down about half of the building.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0Or what about when \u201cThis is America\u201d was published? It was brought out just last year, which was <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/voUHI4pIwmkxNfzR2kwAyqAr0tzZrvTC03DcfwrhNWivHNQB9joJ5DAjcHj19svy-bsa54siuAy24H8YyQcaI8LzdxXB5FPmU-8921b2\" width=\"297\" height=\"167\" \/>around the same time when a bunch of racial incidents have happened.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> For instance, Keith Lamont Scott, a 43-year-old black man from South Carolina, was shot due to an officer\u2019s \u201cmistake\u201d, thinking that he was holding a gun when in reality, it was a book.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> Trayvon Martin, who was also an African American, when he was shot for holding a bag of skittles. It\u2019s pretty ridiculous to many Americans and culturally unfair.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0But Despite these musicians\u2019 efforts to stop this type of brutality, it unfortunately still goes on to this day. And not just for blacks, but for humanity as a whole.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/q1O4auFs56RrCrLe3Jj_7yRMdYbJjWET0shzKvlNb1h10JfJjge4Ee2upZnX8Y0Vc1h6Td-ItoTy9wNfscWFrmV5O4qcwQOMIg0XRibO\" width=\"306\" height=\"172\" \/>\u00a0A white teenager from Ontario, Canada, who goes by the name of David Huggeston, had some background information for us on this topic. He claims that when he was in junior high school, blacks and Hispanics would always call him \u201cWhite A$$ Paper.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0The agent also added that they\u2019d plea that they were \u201cjust kidding\u201d, but he thought otherwise.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0But racism isn\u2019t the only type of discrimination that occurs nowadays. In fact, now people will make fun of you for anything.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0Angelous Dusk is a 20-year-old African American from Los Angeles and states that he used to be bullied as well, but by whites this time. \u201cThey\u2019d always make fun of my height and how my face looked\u201d, he exclaimed. \u201cNothing about race or religion though.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0But how about we ask someone who ALSO produces music? Zaman Alabbas, an 8th grader who makes her own music as a hobby AND future career path, said some pretty significant things about the topic at hand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u201cWhen you think of it, there are ups and downs throughout society. I also agree with MJ\u2019s song <a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2019\/05\/Screenshot_20190514-165503_Snapchat-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2298 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2019\/05\/Screenshot_20190514-165503_Snapchat-1-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2019\/05\/Screenshot_20190514-165503_Snapchat-1-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2019\/05\/Screenshot_20190514-165503_Snapchat-1-576x1024.jpg 576w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2019\/05\/Screenshot_20190514-165503_Snapchat-1-280x498.jpg 280w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2019\/05\/Screenshot_20190514-165503_Snapchat-1-660x1173.jpg 660w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/journalism\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/929\/2019\/05\/Screenshot_20190514-165503_Snapchat-1.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/a>because of the position (his skin changes) he was in at the time.\u201d She explained.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0She also added that it made sense for them to make those songs because of the situations at hand, as well as how it\u2019s OKAY to include race into music, as long as it doesn\u2019t go overboard.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve been turned down before because of my gender and my looks, but I didn\u2019t think it mattered. I was doing what I wanted to do and knew that looks didn\u2019t affect what you can or cannot achieve,\u201d she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0Many fundraisers and protest, both peaceful and hostile, have been made to stop this type of behaviour. One of the most popular and notable ones is #BlackLivesMatter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> This unhostile protest really blew up in 2016, when OTHER certain incidents happened. Not to mention another major movement that\u2019s been around the mid-1800s &#8211; 1960\u2019s, known as the \u201cCivil Rights Movement\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a0\u00a0All in all, racial offence needs to stop spreading. I feel that there needs to be more awareness for it and that if there isn\u2019t going to be an end to it anytime soon, then the world\u2019s serious problems are going to get even bigger.
