That is called motivation. You are motivated to do things you care about. Motivation is basically the desire to do something. There are some people that struggle to find motivation they need to achieve the goals they want.

Zeinab Al-Najim, an 8th grade student who goes to Unis middle school believes that you have to be motivated to do something in life. Motivation is what compels you to take action. “It’s usually how motivated I feel that determines whether I want to do something or not.” According to www.forbes.com, only 40 percent of high school students are usually motivated to do things they want to achieve in life. There are 2 types of motivations which are intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. Extrinsic motivation is being motivated by getting rewards. Intrinsic motivation is being motivated because you really want something.

There are many parents who always want to try and keep their kids motivated to get the things they want in life. Lubna Marfiq, a working mom who still manages to keep her daughter, Zaka Marfiq, motivated believes that motivation is very important. “I’m always trying to keep my daughter motivated in many ways so she won’t give up and anything she wants.” Lubna says she has many ways in keeping her daughter motivated one of them is having her write down her goals and why she wants to achieve them. Not just that but she also explains to her daughter almost everyday how important it is to not give up on the things you want.

“My mom always rewards me at the end of the week for achieving my goals and following the rules by giving me allowance every week”, says Zaka. Zaka believes that these rewards always help her stay motivated. Another way to motivate a child is by holding them accountable and provide consequences that will guide your child to the right place. Don’t just let your child get away with not doing homework, do something about it!

In conclusion, the only way to achieve something is by staying motivated. That is what generally energizes, maintains, and controls behavior. Being lazy and careless is never a solution. The only way is to get motivated and believe that you can achieve what you want to achieve in life.

Mariam Shenaq, Middle School Journalist

Did you ever feel like you wanted to do something for a really big reason?
