It killed 94 ISIS fighters in all.The MOAB weighs over 21,000 pounds and measures 30 feet long. It’s the biggest non-nuclear bomb in the American arsenal. After years of just sitting there, the Pentagon just unleashed it on Afghanistan. There is one question that we need answered. Why did the United States attack Afghanistan, in particular, with the MOAB?

Why Afghanistan?

“What was so special about Afghanistan that they wanted to take the biggest bomb that they have and launch it at Afghanistan?”says Zaradasht Barakat, a 14 yr old. ISIS is the most successful militant group ever, seizing huge chunks of Iraq and Syria, declaring itself a state and governing territory for several years and counting. “One thing we all know for sure is that the U.S is trying to get rid of ISIS, in Afghanistan.” Says Yakeen Bazzi. But what about the people that are some what innocent? Do they deserve to be killed just like that? “There all one group naming themselves ISIS,so if the bomb was aimed at the people who are involved with ISIS than they its their problem for getting involved in the mess. Once you know you have a enemy make sure to always be careful!” says Zaradasht Barakat. The real reason the government sent out the MOAB on ISIS, in Afghanistan, is because the military says it was to destroy tunnels used by ISIS, but the group’s presence is becoming marginal.

Damage Done

The MOAB destroyed anything in its way by 1,000 yards. “Wow! I’m surprised to even hear that…1,000 yards, just imagining that.. I am imagining my whole neighborhood torn into tiny pieces, it may be a small number but how many people live in that small number?” Wafa Musid says surprised. Anybody within 2 miles near the bomb, can be deafened by the very loud sound of the bomb. “It’s not only causing death, and injured people but also people who will be disabled and will always be scared by that day?!” Yakeen Bazzi says saddened and angered. By that large explosion of the MOAB there was a 30 miles wide and 10,000 foot high mushroom cloud. “ Even though it may be a cool thing to watch but it’s also a very dangerous thing to get attracted to.” states Zaradasht Barakat.

Could This Cause a War?

“Yes, this may cause a war, because at the end of the day all people want is vengeance for what they did to their people.” says Zaradasht Barakat truthfully. Yes the USA and ISIS aren’t in such a good strong relationship but a soon as that relationship is no longer their no good will ever come from that. “ Yup all we need right know is that the the US to go into war with ISIS, like that would bring any good to us.”says Yakeen Bazzi sarcastically. The only way to go into war is if the congress votes for us to go into war but other than that there isn’t another way for the us to get into war. “Causing a war may night be the right decision, because people may argue that’s it’s not their fault and will not fight and that’s going to cause a bigger uproar between everyone and I know people wouldn’t want that.” Wafa Musid says truthfully.

The United States and ISIS have never got along. Soon one day it will all end with a war or it would all end with a compromise.

“We can not solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
-Albert Einstein

Suha Aldura

Uni Middle School Journalist

On April 13, 2017 the U.S launched MOAB ( Mother Of All Bombs) at Afghanistan.
