Appearance and beauty has always been a major aspect of women’s lives. Today, new makeup lines are created through the combined efforts of cosmetologists and dermatologists. Makeup has been in use for a long time. Researchers have discovered that the use of makeup goes back at least six thousand years to Ancient Egypt. Makeup, somehow, has always been used in almost every recorded society in history.

The earliest historical record of makeup comes from the 1st Dynasty of Egypt. Unguent was a substance extensively used by men and women to keep their skin hydrated and to avoid wrinkles from the dry heat. The women of Egypt also decorated their eyes by applying dark green color to under lid and blackening the lashes and upper lid with kohl. Romans started using cosmetics by the middle of the 1st century. They used kohl for darkening eyelashes and eyelids, chalk was used for whitening the complexion, and rouge was worn on the cheek.

Danya Aljebori, an 8th grader that attends Unis Middle School thinks, “A lot of people think makeup is to make you look pretty.
