There have been only two McDonald\u2019s restaurants in the United States\u00a0\u00a0that has offered Halal food. Both were located in East Dearborn, Michigan which has a sizable population of Arab-American Muslims.<\/p>\n

At the McDonald\u2019s\u00a0Ford Road location, a sign in Arabic and English is now on the\u00a0\u00a0drive-through menu informing customers that Halal items are no longer available.<\/p>\n

But after a\u00a0 lawsuit that accused the restaurant\u00a0 of selling non-Halal items\u00a0advertised as Halal, McDonald\u2019s has\u00a0took its Halal Chicken McNuggets and Halal McChicken sandwiches off the menu. The move brings to an end a unique product that made the two McDonald\u2019s restaurants in Dearborn popular with Muslims.<\/p>\n

Ahmed Ahmed, used his detective skills after purchasing a Halal Chicken Sandwich. \u00a0He discovered that one of the Dearborn locations wasn\u2019t complying with Islamic dietary laws. This McDonald\u2019s franchise gets its products from an approved Halal Chicken provider, but when it ran out, it start substituting Non-Halal products and figured nobody would notice. Ahmed\u2019s investigation paid off.<\/p>\n

McDonald\u2019s and Finley\u2019s Management Company (franchise owners) agreed to pay $700,000 to members of the Muslim Community to settle allegations concernng\u00a0false advertisements that \u00a0its food was\u00a0being prepared according to Islamic dietary law. The money will be split between customer\u00a0Ahmed\u00a0\u00a0Ahmed, a Detroit health clinic, and the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn.<\/p>\n
