We have so many clubs in Unis Middle school but no one but the club themselves seems to know about them. School clubs are made to get students engaged into certain things. Outside of sports and chess, is seems like no one knows we have other clubs that are in need of more members. Most people don’t care, don’t find them interesting, or important. This is upsetting as it causes the opposite effect that people who start clubs hope for. But the question still stands. Why are we ignored?

Clubs are set up to bring people together over a common interest. Some examples from Unis include Academic games and Robotics. Mrs. Simmons started Robotics for people who were interested in science and technology. Mrs. Simmons stated that she “Started it based on student interest.” Academic games is specifically made for people who like or want to improve math. Clubs can also be made for the sole purpose of helping the school or community the club is in. This is what Student Council is made for. Student Council is in charge of the dances and spirit days. The money made from these are given to charities. This helps both the school and the community.

Yet, once again all the clubs we have are being ignored. One main possible reason that many students do not join a school club is because they don’t want to spend more time after school. While it may make other people hesitant to to stay after school it only makes sense to at least give the club a chance. But to some it doesn’t seem to be a problem.“I thought it was weird that it was only 25 minutes after school.” explained Noar Hussein, a student council member. “I was hoping it would be longer.”

Another problem is the lack of variety in the clubs. Most schools have limited choices. This could also another reason why most people don’t want to join clubs. Some people don’t want to join more clubs because their school’s choices aren’t variated enough. Those people include 7th grader Adam Said and his friends. Adam has been thinking about finding a way to start a new club at Unis. “My new club idea is about people learning how to program. I want them to be able to use certain languages (programming languages) to make websites, games, and apps.”

Basically, school clubs are sadly being shoved aside. It’s time to put them in the spotlight. If you have club ideas, make it known and maybe it could be made into something. If you had a club you wanted to join, join it and convince your friends to as well. If you don’t care about your school clubs at all, I dare you to get up and join one right now. I guarantee you, it’s a thousand times better to get out there and do something rather than sit at home after school and do nothing.

Amira Said,

Middle School Journalist

“We have a student council?” “Why would you wanna do that when you could be at home?” “What even is a student council?” Why are we constantly being ignored?
