The swim team practiced hard everyday leading up to the Dearborn School District City Meet. The city meet is the most important game of the season where all the schools face off in one game to see what team is at the top and what team is on the bottom. The team was very confident that they were going to place in the top 3 of the middle school division.

Unis Middle School Swimming Pool

When the time came for the city meet everyone was happy, excited, and a little bit nervous. The Unis Swim Team had an advantage over the other schools because the city meet was being held at their school. The team practiced for long periods of time so they could get themselves ready for the big game. Although the team had 2 weeks without practice they still thought that they had practiced a lot for this moment.

Houd Mashrah, a swim team member said ‘’ We had practiced a lot for this moment and we don’t want to come in last place. We think that we can get ourselves in the top 3 places, but we might not be able to because some of our fast swimmers went on a field trip to Washington D.C’’. The Unis Swim Team Coach, Mrs. Fenner said “ Even though we don’t have some of our fast swimmers with us at the city meet, I think that I trained these swimmers to be fast and not to give up easy when a challenge comes their way. So yes I think that we are going to place in the top 3 and be one of the fastest swimming schools in Dearborn”.

When everybody arrived to the swim meet with their schools and practiced a little in the water to get used to the pool. The whole arena was silent no one was talking. The only voice they heard was the officials voice say ‘’ Swimmers take your Mark. Get Set,… BANG! The swimmers went their fastest. Most races were close.

The Unis Swim Team swam their fastest in every event however, the results were unexpected. By the end of the swim meet, Unis swimmers were once again disappointed to find out they were in last place. These results could have been discouraging, but several 8th grade swimmers are already thinking about swimming for their high schools next year.

By: Mustafa Shukr

Middle School Journalist

The Unis Swim Team had an unfortunate season with a record of 0 wins and 6 losses. Although the team had a rough season they went into each game with their heads held high.
