{"id":2141,"date":"2018-08-23T14:56:38","date_gmt":"2018-08-23T18:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/joachia\/?p=2141"},"modified":"2018-08-27T12:12:05","modified_gmt":"2018-08-27T16:12:05","slug":"welcome-to-the-2018-2019-school-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/joachia\/2018\/08\/23\/welcome-to-the-2018-2019-school-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am very excited to welcome you to a brand new school year.\u00a0 You will have many opportunities to support your new third grader this year.\u00a0 Help your child begin the year on the right foot on the very first day of school by beginning a before-school and after-school routine.\u00a0 Our goal as a third grade team is to support students as they learn to be independent Haigh Owls and they will need YOUR support at home as well!\u00a0 Here are some tips for a successful start:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.westcoastrcraceway.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/good-morning-clipart-good-morning-animated-clip-art-good-morning-clip-art-free-2-image-social-media-clipart-220x165.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for morning routine clip art\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Morning Routines<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eat a healthy breakfast OR sign up for breakfast at Haigh.\n<ul>\n<li>Haigh breakfast begins at 8:15.<\/li>\n<li>Students may NOT arrive earlier than 8:15 for breakfast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you have packed a snack and water bottle\n<ul>\n<li>Ice water creates puddles on desk-tops.\u00a0 Avoid adding ice.<\/li>\n<li>Re-fillable water bottles with a flip top lid are a great choice.<\/li>\n<li>Fruit, veggies, dairy, crackers\/pretzels are great snack choices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Make sure that backpack includes the OWL FOLDER and SIGNED PLANNER!\u00a0 I check these every morning.<\/li>\n<li>Bring a pair of outside running shoes for recess.\u00a0 We will be exercising outside every day (weather permitting)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.clipartxtras.com\/c9eda6932fcff416929fe0d1f369bbbd_after-school-program-sacred-heart-school-hartsdale-ny-after-school-programs-clipart_360-215.png\" alt=\"Image result for after school clip art\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After-School Routines<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unpack that backpack and enjoy a snack together at the kitchen\/dining table.<\/li>\n<li>Talk about the day, using that planner as a guide.\n<ul>\n<li>HOMEWORK IS ALWAYS HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW!!<\/li>\n<li>All other entries are to help you have a fun conversation about what we did in school today!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Get going on that homework.\n<ul>\n<li>It should only take between 15-30 minutes to complete. Stop after 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Check off the homework in the planner.\u00a0 If your third grader has worked for 30 minutes and the work is not finished, take a break and come back to it after some playtime\/dinner.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t spend more than 2 sessions of 30 minutes on homework.\u00a0 At that point, write me a note in your third grader&#8217;s planner that explains what happened and then I can help in school.<\/li>\n<li>Parents, make sure you sign that planner every day!
